Son going on an out of state official visit.

does the school pay for a parent to accompany or is it only the player who gets his expenses paid for.

Can a player sign more than one NLI in lifetime??? signed out of hs to a DI. transfered to JUCO. Now going back to DI, can different school offer NLI.

D1

For in state or out of state, if you drive your son to the school they will reimburse you miledge and most likely pay for your accomodations and some meals. If they fly your son out, you must pay for your own fare.

If they didn't extend the invite to you, ask. I am not sure about other divisions.
ssmom,
See Article 13.5.2 of the D1 manual for information about costs on official visits. It shows that airfare for a parent is outside the rules.

13.5.2.2.1 Prospective Student-Athlete’s Friends and Relatives. A prospective student-athlete’s friends, relatives or legal guardian(s) may receive cost-free transportation to visit a member institution’s campus only by accompanying the prospective student-athlete at the time the prospective student-athlete travels in an automobile to visit the campus.

and also

13.5.2.6 Transportation of Prospective Student-Athlete’s Relatives, Friends or Legal Guardian(s).
An institution shall not permit its athletics department staff members or representatives of its athletics interests to pay, provide or arrange for the payment of transportation costs incurred by relatives, friends or legal guardian(s) of a prospective student-athlete to visit the campus or elsewhere; however, an institution may:
(a) Provide automobile-mileage reimbursement to a prospective student-athlete on an official visit, even if relatives or friends accompany the prospective student-athlete; and (Revised: 1/11/94, 5/12/05)
(b) Provide local transportation between its campus and the nearest airport for the parents, relatives or legal guardian(s) of a prospective student-athlete making an official visit.

I seem to have a little bit of different information. I know of two recent local situations where the DI flew both player and one parent out for their visit. ( according to the specific parents involved. )

It's amazing what parents will tell you to impress you. Roll Eyes
My son was interviewed for a local prep message board. The writer said son got a full ride for baseball. Son e-mailed that he was misquoted and asked the writer to edit the article. The writer said "it's not a big deal" and was unable to correct the info. We are embarrased about the incorrect info but our friends know the truth. Son did e-mail future coach to say he'd been misquoted. Sometimes these things take on a life of their own.
