PARKLAND· For the first time since they were 9, Douglas seniors Dave Christensen, Sean Ochinko and Brandon Holden realize they won't always play baseball together.
The trio signed their national letters-of-intent in the school's media center Wednesday morning. Christensen signed with Miami, Ochinko with LSU and Holden with Florida.
The three South Florida Sun-Sentinel Broward All-County players have played together since they were teammates on the Boca Bombers at age 9.
"We all played together for so long, we were talking about going to the same [college]," said Ochinko, who batted .407 last season with 33 RBI. "We were teammates for so long, but now it worked out for the three of us."
"We all grew up playing together, and played exclusively together," said Christensen, who is one of the top student-athletes at the school. He is ranked 88th in his class of 727. He is also the 28th ranked high school prospect in the nation by Baseball America. "It's great to see all three of us sign with three big-time schools on the same day."
Holden, who has been the team's ace since his sophomore year, has had his fastball clocked at 93 mph.
"This is a pretty big day," Holden said. "We have been waiting for this since we started playing ball. It's a done deal. The pressure is off because you know that you will at least be going to a top D-1 school. The only thing better would be to get drafted. That would be the next great day to share with these guys."
