Got a friend with a young son (11u) and wants to erect an outdoor hitting cage in his backyard.

Anyone have any recommendations as to where to begin the proper search, i.e. outdoor rated netting, best erection system, i.e. poles, cables, etc. how large, et al.

Any direction in this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

YoungGunDad,

The 1st thing I’d advise, is to make sure your friend doesn’t live in a homeowner’s assn that has CC&Rs which might cause a problem. I have a friend here who put a cage on his own property, and ended up getting fined $100 a day until he removed it. He ended up putting a strange concoction in his garage in order to pacify the old bluehairs here. Musta worked though. If you watched Or St in the last couple weeks, you saw his kid. Wink

As to where to begin, I wish I could help, but I’ve seen literally hundreds of different setups in the last 10-15 years, and they all seem to work to some degree. A lot has to do with how much $$$ he’s willing to spend, and how much room he has.

I wish you and he all the luck in the world!

We've had good luck too 20dad! This particular set up we've had out front in our yard for nine years or so. I have to agree with my neighbors...if it weren't for the picture of the big batter on each column this puffy contraption would be a genuine eyesore.

The only trouble we've ever had is twice it has blown onto our neighbors property. The first time it landed on his Kia® Sportage and set off the alarm. He was out of town and that thing blared for what seemed like forever, but it was really only two or three days. The second time it tumbled over to his place and it landed in his drive in such a way he couldn't get out. He missed his nephew's wedding. We offered to let him use it any time he liked, but he wasn't happy.

Happy?...
