Does anybody know if the NCAA keeps records on outfield assists? I’m asking because my son just got back from the baseball season kick-off banquet at his alma mater. His senior season was Coach Pollard’s first year there, and Pollard converted my son from catcher to right field.

At the banquet, Pollard told my son that he led the nation in outfield assists that year, with 15. I knew he threw a lot of guys out, but I wasn’t aware that assists were tracked by position by the NCAA.

Anybody know? I’d love to verify this, because it would be kinda cool for him if he actually did lead the entire nation in a statistical category.

Here you go....outfield assists is not listed

Oh, I haven’t found any ranking, but I did go to the team stats page to see what his number for assists was. It wasn’t 15 like Pollard said - it was 9. That’s a good number but I think it’s unlikely it would lead the nation even if they did keep a rank.

I guess Pollard exaggerated a bit!
