when attending a showcase, what approach should an outfielder take when throwing from RF to 3rd and home. do you go all out or do you pace yourself? by pacing yourself, i mean make your first throw a crisp one and the second a bullet (in the case of making 4 throws total to 3rd and home). i ask this because my son injured his arm throwing in a showcase (he threw 6 balls opposed to 4).

Not necessarily at all, Wala. It could be that his arm got cold in between initial warm up and when he actually got to throw in the field.

If he feels his arm has gotten cold, he should not go all out on the first throw. This is not an unusual problem at showcases and tryouts. It makes it imperative to very thoroughly warm up the arm at the start. And wearing sleeves to help keep the arm warm is also a good idea.

Was this the only showcase he went to? Try another, if he is up to it.

At one very well run showcase my son did well in the tryout, great on the 60s, very good in the outfield. When they got to the games he didn't see a fastball. All off speed pitches and curves. He got several infield hits that he ran out and got on base. No long balls in that showcase at all.

The next showcase, with many of the same coaches in attendance, he had several long hits. Keep on trying. You never know who is watching.
