Sorry, I'm just so happy at the moment -- son just found out he's made the final cut as one of only two freshman to make the varsity! Maybe now he'll get a girlfriend
I'm hoping if he has to have a girlfriend that he'll find one like Donna Reed (for those of you who remember...........). A girl that knows how to throw a baseball!!
Krak - congrats to the son - girlfriend isn't necessarily a bad thing if he gets the right one. EXAMPLE: Windmill Jr has been with the same girl [both of them juniors] for about a year and a half [a lifetime in HS yrs!!], which at first blush is not so good [getting too serious, etc]. On the other hand, she was all league in field hockey and s****r as a soph, drawing lots of interest from college coaches. She places no demands on his time, because she is too busy with her own athletics [you know how s****r is - the sport that never ends]. So he doesn't get any of the "What do you mean you have a double header on Sunday? We're supposed to go to the mall." "SHOWCASE??? But you were supposed to take me to get my nails done!!" She most likely has an indoor s****r tournament. So if he gets himself a girl, steer him towards the female athletes.
Volcanic One: Congrats on your son's accomplishment! This is a big deal for him and I know you are proud. As far as the girlfriend thing goes, I have always encouraged it. It's a social thing that kids have to learn. Now "SWEETHEARTS" that's a different story. It's a whole different ball game when they "fall in love"!
BTW did you ever receive my private message about my cousin who is in your area?
Congrats to you and your son Krakatoa! Drink in the next four years ... it goes by way too fast.
My son said it best when I asked him if he was 'interested' in this girl he had gone out with:
"Dad, don't you know having a girlfriend will drop your BA 100 points?!"
He loves to go out and socialize with all his friends, including lots of girls, but he steers away from any girl 'issues' that start to interfere with baseball or school work.
Krakatoa, We might have been there about the same time. I went there from 80 to 82. First time I saw "Its a wonderful life" was at somebody's place on DP.
CADad, OMG, I lived on El Nido!! Let's see, I was there from '84-'87 after transferring from Wash State and spending a year at Brooks. What a blast that place was!!
Player'sDad, yes, I did get that info and thought I had replied. I probably replied on the wrong button and sent it to Bob@HSBBW as I often do. Sorry!
Donna Reed? Even when I was still perusing back in the '80s, Donna Reed-types were a very distant memory. There are still some really great ones though, and he'll find one (hopefully a softball player).
