As a parent of a freshman player 12-13 hours by car..

I suppose many schools leave complimentary tickets for your use, but we choose to support the program. I do think the players get a certain number of free tickets per game.
Don't know how many games we will get to (I hear where there is a will there is a way). Some of the away games are within 7-8 hours driving distance, that helps.
I will let you know in the spring if it
is killing me.
He is happy, and I suppose that is all that matters! It is after all, about him, not us.

We are 7 hours plus a little from our son, so we can only get to weekend games, and with a younger brother playing high school ball, we'll be pleased if we get to 15-20 games (out of 56). He'll likely pitch relief so we never know for sure if we'll see him play but always nice to see him under any circumstances. No admission charge.

Yes, it does kill us not to see everything, but as is true in life, you adjust and deal with it.
In Division I, the NCAA allows each player to designate up to 4 tickets per game to be given to friends and family. A signup sheet is circulated to the players before each game, and they specify the names of the individuals who are to be given tickets at the gate. This applies to both home and away games, but can be suspended for special tournaments. As a friend or family member, you simply present your ID at the ticket office or gate; and, if you're on the list, you get in.

This method got my wife and me into 58 0f our son's 64 games last season. A tournament at Rice suspended the rule (3 games), and we couldn't attend 3 others.

The player gets four complimentary tickets for home games and two to the away games. Upon arrival at the gate, we go to the “will call” window or table and if he remembered to put our name on the list, we get tickets. Big Grin Bringing relatives? They can have another player that doesn’t use his allotment to substitute your relative’s names.

If your son is going to a school not within driving distance, how often do you go to games?
Not sure what you mean here. What do you consider too far? Ours is between six and seven hours by car. We will make all the home week-end series and most of the away week-end series with the exception of a few that we consider too far. We were fortunate that many of his games were televised and we were able to watch most of the games we couldn’t attend. While we do attend many of his games, there is still a void because I don't attend practice or fall ball. You know, I don't tell him but I kinda like some of my new found freedom. Smile

Our son's school is about a 3 hour drive away, and we "try" to get to ALL of his home games. We watched him sit the bench the majority of his freshman season last year....but we STILL wouldn't have missed the experience. No admission to home games....the players get to sign a list for away games listing the people they would like to have tickets waiting for at the "will call" window. We tried to make as many of his away games as we could, altho rarely were we able to accomplish that together. Hubby went to Texas for spring tourney, and I went to Miami for that series. The rest were more easily "do-able". Otherwise, we were glued to the computer listening to those games we weren't able to get to. Tough? Yeah.....but you can only do what you are able to do!
Son's (incoming sophomore) school is 7 hour drive for us. We drove up for weekend games several times and I flew up a couple times. We found a cheap but nice hotel and really enjoyed watching the games and getting to know some parents.

Our son pitches in relief...so we missed some of his outings. We were glued to the internet and literally jumped out of our chairs screaming when things went well! I'm sure the neighbors wonder about us noidea

Yes...the distance kills us! Yes...he made the right decision! Cool The "fit" is so much more important than distance. walk

Our son's team provides four free game tickets per player 14

Sleeping well knowing he's in the right place Wink
