Their website (www.Parkland.edu) has information for players interested in the school and baseball program. They are a division two junior college program. The head coach, Mitch Rosenthall, is in his second year. His combined two year record is something like 90-35. They have gone to the world series four out of the last six years. They won a national championship in 2002 and were second in 2005. On one of the website pages is a list of players who have gone on to four year schools to play baseball; many go to D1 schools. They recruit mostly in the areas around and in Illinois but last year had a fine player from Australia and have had, in the recent past, fine players from Canada. They make an annual spring trip to Florida.

In general terms, I have always thought that junior colleges are a tremendous value for your educational dollar. No matter what school you attend, large or small, you are required to complete certain general education classes. At junior colleges, you have a 'real' professor and a small class size as opposed to some of the big D1 schools where you have a teacher's assistant and class sizes of 500 or more (again, we're talking about beginning general ed classes). I think junior colleges are a great way to get a lot of those general ed requirements out of the way at a relatively low cost. And, if you get to keep playing baseball, well, what could be finer?
softhands11,

I replied to your PM. I would also like to mention you may want to send a PM to jmjvj since his son attended Parkland. Sorpe has also posted some very good information and be sure to explore the Parkland website as well as the NJCAA website (NJCAA DII Baseball)and USA Baseball Stadium website (USA Stadium). Good luck in your search!

lafmom,

Thanks for the compliment. Let's hope the information I provided doesn't serve to confuse as much as it helps!
