Was it ever revealed why Murphy parted ways with ASU?
Nothing apparently is going to be said until some time in the upcoming months when hearings are held and things finalized

Murphy was let go when the NCAA notified ASU that it had credible evidence that recruiting violations had occurred in baseball. It revolved around too much recruit contact and not logging contacts. It's common to whack personnel involved in violations immediately, as the NCAA views that favorably as trying to get the situation under control.

Additional note: a young man who played with us a few years back went to ASU with the intent of working with and under Coach Murphy and Mike Rooney. With their resignations he was named Acting Director of Baseball operations and External Affairs.
It is certainly a funny world--the door opens and one leaves while another door opens for a young man looking to improve himself. In fact I just got off the phone with the young man
