I figure Schaumburg because they have just about everyone back form last year's team which was very good. They have a number of very good players. They also have a coach who knows how to win games.

After practicing with the Mistratas, I have no doubt Schaumburg will be good. They consistantly murder the ball.
Sorry to bring up an issue that has already died down, but I believe that when it comes to getting a player noticed, it's partly the responsibility of the player to talk to his coach about recruiting. If you let your coach know you're serious about playing college baseball and ask for help in that regard, I believe most high school baseball coaches would put forth a better effort.

When I was going through the process a couple years ago, I asked for help from my high school coach and he jumped at the opportunity. If you're coach isn't actively showcasing you, tell him you want his help in playing college baseball. I was fortunate enough to have a coach that was willing to help. I know some don't have such a luxury, but I do believe that communication with a coach about wanting to play beyond high school would help in the effort.
I agree with FastballDad...you were fortunate Ktown25. And RRF8...it appears your son was very fortunate as well.

When our boys were at that point in their HS baseball career...when the coach could have been helpful...he did absolutely zero...he even kept information regarding showcases that had been mailed to him languishing in a file. None of the players were told anything about them.

We found out after the fact. Had we known about the HSBBW back then we would have had a productive source of information and most likely wouldn't have missed the opportunities that the players were being offered, but the coach failed to make them aware.

You also offer good advice Ktown25..."If you let your coach know you're serious about playing college baseball and ask for help in that regard, I believe most high school baseball coaches would put forth a better effort."

Even the coach I described would have fished the flyers out for the players had they asked. None of the players knew to ask and the coach certainly knew that he had players desiring to continue on playing baseball in college.

By the way...he's no longer the coach. His baseball shortcomings had become abundantly clear and he's now back on the football side where he belongs. He lasted two years. Unfortunately those were the two critical years for my boys. The new coach is a baseball guy and the players will greatly benefit from him I'm sure. Just in case though I'm going to let the players and parents know about the HSBBW.

Spread the word about the HSBBW...this site can really help the players and families who are not knowledgeable enough on their own. We, unfortunately, were ignorant, but not stupid. If you know of some player who could benefit from this site please let him know.

"Ignorance is bliss", but bliss ain't baseball.

To add on to what has been previously mentioned as far as your coach not doing everything he could to promote your wishes of playing past HS, don't hesitate to ask an opposing coach for advice.

You would not be crossing boundaries and most would be more than willing to help steer you in the right direction. That's a luxury around here having the quality of HS coaches in the state that one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.

It's just unfort. that some parents and kids don't consider this a viable option or are afraid to step on someone's toes.
I think the PBR rankings are pretty accurate and we'll sure find out once it gets warmer. As far as showcases, I find them all to be around the same price, there's some that are in the $500's too. But definitely if you have the money and can pay to go to them and get your name out there it's an advantage over someone that can't and has to hope someone notices him or see's him somewhere. And no matter how hard you try, there will always be people that fall through the cracks and that's nobody's fault but to applaud the kid on working hard and not giving up despite being left off certain lists or teams.
Your right there are a few free showcases which are great for the kids, however, those are invite only tryouts. The other showcases that are open to the public, all range in price. Not everyone gets invited to Stevenson, area codes, etc. Stevenson and Plainfield are probably the best bang for your buck and have the most kids there that get seen IMO, but you have to be nominated by your HS coach.
