We have been working with the hitters doing drills- tee, front toss, soft toss (just read the thread:-(, batting cage from machine, and coach pitching. We were trying to let the kids get as many reps as possible, but I am starting to think that they need to see more pitches from the kids in practice. We have kids that are crushing in practice, but not in the games.

We don't have many pitchers that can throw strikes, and we don't want to wear out the ones that can throw. What have you guys done?

If it's the first year of kid pitch that's usually fairly normal. HOWEVER I have seen ALOT of coaches at that level want their kids to see alot of pitches and draw walks...just to win.

Get your hitters AGGRESSIVE AT THE PLATE.

The biggest thing I see with young kids (and older sometimes too) is their mentality going to the plate.

Have your kids go to the plate THINKING that EVERY PITCH is going to be a strike they are going to HIT. The load, stride, and if the pitch is not there, they just hold their hands.

You'll get some kids swing at bad pitches. You'll also get some kids to stop worrying about the possible strike outs the first time they DO HIT it .

Tell all your kids you don't care if they strike out...but they should strike out with three GOOD SWINGS.

I worked with a kid last year in LL...he hit EVERYTHING in BP. Get in a game, and it's like he didn't want to swing.

After talking to the kid for awhile, figured out that his coach the previous year had really screwed the kid up.

Playoff game (it was LL Majors regular season schedule) the kid came up to bat. Bases loaded, in a really tight game. 2 outs. He hits a hard line drive that gets caught by the opposing LF. The Coach makes sure to mention to the kid that it was 3-1 when he hit that pitch and it could have been ball 4.

I got the complete story from the opposing coach, who I've known for several years.

He said the pitch was dead down the middle, the kid crushed it and his left fielder makes a play that he'd probably never make again.

So don't take this LITTLE guys confidence away by having them looking for walks every bat.

Have them going to the plate WANTING TO HIT THE BALL.

Just my lowly opinion.
