Well I did my MBA at Pepperdine. Very good school, very conservative, and they really put a lid on partying. And not much close to campus.

My guy took his first visit there and was amazed that he was pretty much ignored. Said the bb facilities were pretty darn run down by the standards he saw at other places. Flew home and scratched them from his list.

History says they play pretty good bb.

So good school. Very conservative Christian school, good bb.

Looking at their 2021 roster online I count 43.  They had 35 in 2020 and showed 10 commits (per PG) in the 2020 HS class.  Given the Covid circumstances 43 doesn't seem too crazy.  They have 7 2021 commits and only 2 2022's per PG.  Over recruiting doesn't jump out at me, at least from the info I can find.   Looking back to 2016 PG data, their pattern looks like an average of around 10 commits per HS class.  Where did you see 55 players?

Have they invited your son to school for baseball?

We have several former Goodwill Series Int'l players at the school and the Pitching coach Jim Lawler is a friend from our AC tryouts at Texas A&M.

The school has a "outstanding" Film and Media Dept.

Dave Gorrie, former Pepperdine Coach was our American team Coach to Japan.

My son didn't end up choosing Pepperdine, but he had a few phone calls with their recruiting coordinator and pitching coach.

For what it's worth, the Pepperdine pitching coach was one of the only coaches who took the time to actually "talk pitching" with my son and give him some tips.  The website says that he stayed on after he joined the staff "on an interim basis", so I don't know how long he'll be there.

Would like to get some current info on Pepperdine from anyone in the know.  I have been by the campus, I know all of the ups and downs of Cali and LA in general as I spend a fair amount of time in SoCal for work.  I am looking for any specifics on the school, baseball program and coaches.

One thing that's perhaps not as well known is that Pepperdine is a dry campus. Students party of course but it's pretty much all off campus.

As I'm sure you know WCC baseball is very good quality with nice facilities (in addition to the ocean view at Pepperdine USD, BYU and Santa Clara have really nice facilities. Fun road trips too (SF, Portland, San Diego). We catch the odd WCC game at Fowler Park (USD) from time to time and it's a great cbb experience.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get this information.  I would find it very useful over the next 9/10 months.

Aren’t most colleges considered a dry campus? I was at FSU in the 90’s during the number 1 party school days and it was technically a dry campus.

A cursory look on Google suggests that 30 or so percent of US campuses are dry.

Of those that are dry, anecdotally I get the impression that there are two kinds of dry campus. There is the "get that s__t out of here" if you get caught kind of campus, and the "you are on probation or even expelled" if you get caught kind of campus.

FSU was a semester suspension if you were caught with booze in your room. Then you had to go in front or committee to be re-admitted. Most kids I know never bothered to come back to campus. Funny thing was every Saturday for home football games the enforcement completely stopped. Weird how that works

We had a 2018 kid that went there from our hs.  He left the baseball program after one semester but stayed at the school.  I don't have insight into why other than the coaches put him in a summer program before his freshman year and he was burned out by December.  I know they had him play a lot of games that summer, but I have to assume it was more the kid than the program?
