Well, forget what I said earlier. This memo is now posted on the PG website. I bet their are some unhappy people, who thought they were sitting pretty already finishing 1 or 2 in their respective pools getting ready for the championship rounds. Sounds like its a whole new ballgame for everyone.

The Tournament Committee has decided to start Championship Playoffs Friday. We feel this is the best way to insure a deserving champion and get more games in. All teams will enter the Championship round. Some POOL games and incomplete games will be played first. You can check the Friday schedule to see those games listed. Go to tournament schedule and click on FRIDAY. Once these games have been completed, the playoffs will begin. This system should still allow teams the maximum number of games while allowing the championship round a better chance for completion. It also allows more flexibility in scheduling should there be more rain. It also gives all teams a chance to win the tournament no matter where they are seeded. Teams that are #1 and #2 in their pool will have an advantage as they will receive byes. Round 1 of the playoffs will be #3 seeds playing #4 seeds from a different pool. The winner will advance to play a #2 seed, the loser goes into consolation games. Round 2 of the playoffs will be the winners from round 1 playing a #2 seed. The winner will advance to play a #1 seed. The loser goes into consolation games. This format allows everyone an opportunity to enter into championship play while rewarding the top seeds. It will take several games to win it all and for those who lose games it will create consolation games. Weather permitting we will see the top teams playing a lot of baseball over the weekend. Some teams may not be in favor of this decision, but we have talked it over with several scouts and college coaches as well as the tournament committee and decided it’s the very best way to deal with the situation. Rather than the many changes in scheduling due to weather problems we will have a set playoff schedule that will not change order. Please look at the schedule for Friday which will be posted soon.

I guess the format has changed again, the above memo has been removed and replaced with this one. I guess some coaches didnt like the first suggestion.

After much deliberation and communication from coaches, we have decided to finish the final pool games and start some of the playoffs and consolation games on Friday.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs weather permitting. If the playoffs cannot be completed, the highest seeded team left in the playoffs will be crowned the champion.

Some teams played until 3-4AM yesterday morning!!(7/14) Son's team finished at 2:40AM! Eek

Everyone finished their 2nd game last night-early this morning!!
17 teams have finished 3 games as of last night (lucky!!).
Those folks have a bye this morning to "try" to get as many teams as possible at a 3 game level.
I assume, that if it doesn't rain much more, that playoffs will begin as noted & perhaps play thru the night again!!
Rough!
The showers & thunderstorms are rolling in every afternoon...Just havoc with the fields & players, not to mention PG staff. Several fields are flooded out.
I have to hand it to PG, they are doing a good job considering near impossible circumstances.
Saturday may be "dry"...The humidity is a killer!! 95-97%

Thanks, Melynda,
Not too concerned...The kids played their last pool game yesterday in a downpour. Glad I wasn't there doing the laundry!! laugh
The team plays this morning at 11, EST & if they win, again @ 3pm.
I'm just pleased with the turnout of coaches & son's reports of happenings.(except the part about being cleated in the face...ouch!)
Understand Dbat has looked good, too.
We're 2-0 with wins over the All-American Prospects (8-0) and Florida Crusaders (1-0). Keller slugger Jonathan Edwards plays with the Prospects. A lot of exceptional teams here and it's a shame the weather took away so many games.

Maybe the rain will stay away today and tomorrow - we play at 2pm today and 7pm with a win.

Here's the Championship Bracket: http://www.worldwoodbat.com/NewsDetails.aspx?ID=315
We were in Atlanta the 10th through the 17th and only got in three games due to rain. The DBAT boys played well in going 2-1 while allowing just five total hits and not a single run against excellent competition. The loss came on a tiebreaker after 7 innings had us knotted at 0-0.

Will be nice to sleep in own bed tonight and not have to wonder if it's going to rain or not....
