We use laser timing. When any part of the body breaks the line the time starts. Unless the line is broken early with the front side you should run approximately .10 faster than an accurate hand held time.
The reason we use laser is to maintain consistency (take the human element out of it). Starting this year, we will be laser timing at 10 yards and 60 yards. Reason being we believe the 10 yard time is most valuable in baseball. Sometimes there are players that are very quick but don't run great 60 times. We believe the 10 yard times will become very important to scouts and college recruiters. Would they want the shortstop that runs the fastest 60 or the one that runs the fastest 10? Our belief is that in all short sprints, 30 yards or less, it's all about the jump or start. So speed in 30 feet or 10 yards can tell us a lot about quickness even if someone runs a slow 60.
