If PG sees this...  just wondering on the zepp numbers if they represent the 'best' or an average.  If an average how many swings is it based on?  Since the numbers go out a few decimals looks like it may be an average.  Whereas pitch and exit velocities are always the too speed thrown/hit.  Just curious.  I  anyone else knows from son showcasing or something please also respond!

It's the best.  5 swings.  [They also actually send you the Zepp results into the App after the showcase which is nice--that's how I know.]

Curious how much PG uses the Zepp info and exit speed of the Tee in its ratings (I wonder if it's just to confirm what they see or a separate metric/given heavier weighting than that).  It's definitely interesting stuff.

Zepp, just like any radar gun can give false readings at times.  However, if you have four swings in the mid 80s and one in the mid 90s, we would document the highest of the mid 80 swings.  Same goes for four swings in the 90s and one at mid 70s. We would use the highest of the mid 90s.

If someone has the Zepp, it should be very easy to figure out what their true numbers are.

BTW, Zepp is only a small part of how we grade hitters.  It gives us an additional look at a hitters ability and/or potential, that we might have missed in watching the player hit live.  So in that way it is important, in a small way like TrackMan is important.  All information is important!

Love it, PGStaff--appreciate your reply. Exactly what I would have thought.  And, the more information the better to get a full picture of the player (slicing it many different ways/showing different views so reducing the chances that something is missed).  Kudos for leading the way on technology and scouting, which in the end, benefits both the players, scouts and coaches in making informed decisions.

I find the zepp to be very accurate big picture.  Yes there are obvious misreads.  But we find on days my son has played a few basketball games and he is kind of beat his bat speed Is down just as you may guess.  The exit velos I take seem to be in line with the bat speeds.  A misread here and there.  Nice thing is you can simply delete that swing.  Also once everything was completely out of whack.  We just started over from scratch.   Reprogrammed the square and calibrates stance and all was good.  I love measurables so its right up my alley.  And really one of the cheapest of the tech toys.  You can get them anytime for $120.  20% off sports authority coupon is how we did it.

A little off topic, but how did you "reprogram" the square.  Is that just recalibration?  We are getting attack angles that make no sense.

Click on the start menu then on the cogwheel in the bottom left next to the bat choice thing and then reset sensor.

Important to note resetting the sensor (what I called the square) and calibrating are two different things.  To be safe now we do both every time before swinging.  Easy and fast to do.  What are the attack angles you are getting?  Not looking at bat angle are you?

Basically 25-40.  And most hits are line drive trajectories.  So had the kid pound a few into the ground trying to create a neg angle.  Ended up in the 40s.

They suggest a 10 target.  From my observation that would seem to be too flat.

Don't forget is measures bat attack angle not ball exit angle. You can use an uppercut and still pound the ball into the ground by hitting it over the midline.

i know zepp says grounders typically have a negative attack angle but for higher level hitters the attack angle will always be quite similar and exit angle hinges more on where you hit the ball ( below or above the equator).
