My 2013 son is signed up to attend this event in Ft. Myers December 28-30. He is mainly a RHP with (hopefully) mid 80's velo and a couple of decent off speed pitches. He is also a corner infielder. Big kid, 6'3", 240 that runs an eight second 60, has good power and arm, but that is about it. My question is should he showcase as just a pitcher or do both. His post high school future will most probably be as a pitcher but he is a good high school level hitter/position player too. I just don't want his position play to bring down his "PG Grade". Let's say he throws 85 mph, good off speed and command, performs well and grades out as a pitcher at a 9. Then he runs an 8.1 60, does OK in the field, OK at bat and grades out as a hitter/position player at a 7. Is his overall grade then a 8? Son wants to showcase both. With the cost of the event and the travel I want to get the most out of it as well but not to the extent that it does more harm than good.

Elroy,

The grade alone does not mean that much. Its what he does as a pitcher or hitter that catches a college coach's eye. Since he is still developing I would let him enter as both pitcher and position player. Believe me, if he throws extremely well and shows further potential as a pitcher, it won't matter what he does as a position player to lower the grade. But he may have potential as a powerhitter, perhaps a first baseman too.
