Given your academic priorities I would suggest Head First. Where are you located? There may be other showcases in your area people can recommend. Four years ago Atlantic 100 was $250 (if I remember correctly).
Contact Navy and the other service academies and ask them.
PG - Do you know the date yet for the 2014 Academic Showcase (last year was June 1st and 2nd, I believe) ... also, schools that had representatives there? Thanks in advance if you can share.
Will check when I'm back in the office. Should be approximately the same dates. The full 2014 schedule should be released soon.
Headfirst Honor Roll Camps were very instrumental for my son, but so was the Perfect Game National Academic showcase. Son was seen by Army at the latter and offered based upon his performance there.
There are other "academic" camps and showcases that have multiple schools attending, e.g., Top96, Princeton, Brown, Harvard, et.al.
But for my money, the two that stood out for us were PG National Academic and Headfirst Honor Roll. These two showcases/camps had the academically oriented schools in which we were interested.
If your primary interest is in a service academy, as noted by PG, contact them. Find out where they will be and go there to be seen.
My son did both PG Academic and Headfirst last Summer. i can say with 100% certainty (my own eyes) that Navy was at PG Academic. I am almost certain they were at HF, but don't have the specific recollection like I do from PG-A. It may depend on the session as HF has several. Won't get into details, but both events are good for different reasons.
LPeers,
USNA hosts summer baseball camps in Annapolis. A Navy camp would probably be quite a bit less expensive than attending a showcase.
The link below doesn't list any camps for next summer yet, but it does have contact information for the baseball program.
I have seen both Army and Navy at non Academic PG events as well.
LPeers,
My two cents.......Do you know if baseball is a "hook" into Navy admissions as it is with many other high academic schools? I'm asking because I don't know the answer, and I'm guessing you don't know either. As others have suggested, contact the Navy recruiting coordinator/head coach to give you the answer and possibly save you $1K. If Navy Is running a prospect camp that may be enough exposure to get in front of the Navy baseball decision makers. I'm willing to bet the Navy Admissions folks are more concerned with big picture items than baseball players. If you are dead set on Navy, then I would do everything that needed to be done to get accepted with or without baseball.
If there is some doubt about your desire to attend Navy or any other school, HeadFirst or PG Academic will give you exposure to many, many great academic schools that you may be able to choose from.
Good luck!
I know from firsthand experience that, at least years ago, baseball could definitely be a hook into admissions at Navy. Things may well have changed, but I thought I'd share.
My son had interest from both Army and Navy at the SelectFest showcase in NJ. He also garnered interest form several Ivy's and other academic schools in the NE from this one showcase. It was well worth the money spent.
Pretty sure it is half the cost and you would have the ability to commute. It is an invite only, but most of the well connected summer team in our area are able to get you in if you have ability.
Best of luck!
