My son is a very athletic young man. He is is a rising senior in high school. He has played football (starting LB and Zback) and baseball every year. He is 6'2 200 lbs, runs a 4'6 40 and 6'7 60. His passion is baseball,(CF) but has not played on any high profile teams due to football. He made the decision to drop football and focus on baseball in the fall. He went to his first showcase this summer and did well and was invited to participate in the Ga Dugout Club Top 100 showcase, which he did. He has since been invited to play on a couple of different high profile travel teams in the fall and was also invited to attend the Perfect Game Southeast Top Prospect Showcase in September at east Cobb. He needs the exposure and these things seem good but expensive. What do you know about Perfect Game Showcases and are they worth the money. For some of you that have been down this road, any reccomendations?
Thanks!

Say he attends PG at a cost of, say, $1000 in round numbers including all related expenses. Say some schools start calling within 30-60 days resulting in, say, $5000, maybe more, in baseball money for 4 years at a school your son really wants to attend. That's a nice return, but actually pales in comparison to the satisfaction your son will feels living the dream for 4 or 5 years.

Ive been asked before about whether or not Perfect Game was worth the money and I've got to say absolutely....

if we used that $1,000 figure..and we added in the 4 days we spent just the two of us......the fun he had playing with the best, the attention and calls he got from the schools attending..the hours in the car we spent talking one on one...as men,....just as he was moving on to his adult future......Id say I owe PG some money...

There will be a time in the future...when I would pay many thousands more to have that special time with my son all over again.......and gladly.....

My son has participated in PG events ever since the fall of his freshman year. Most recently he attended the PG Nationals in Arkansas and WWBA 17U & 18U events in East Cobb. He also has done many Team One events and will be at Cape Cod Classic next week. We live out west and absent the PG/Team One exposure my son would not have had an opportunity to be viewed by ACC/SEC and other schools outside our geographic area. This past Friday my son {2007} verbally committed to Wake Forest. This could not have happened without these showcases. I believe that if you possess talent these events can be very beneficial.
Strongly recommend Perfect Game to any prospect, especially in HS, who aspires to reach the professional and/or college ranks.

TR has done a ton of good work in the promotion and help to HS student/athlete prospects in these areas also at CollegeSelect Baseball.(See banner sponsor at top of this page Smile )

TRhit - My son is attending the PG showcase in Waco this weekend. Would you elaborate on your statement concerning "how to use them to your advantage"? I am looking for all tips to make this a positive experience. Also - does anyone have an opinion on the filming done by SkillShow? I think it is about $15 per month to have the film attached to the player profile.
I also have a son attending the PG event in Waco this weekend...and am also interested in comments about the filming done by SkillShow.

I would like to hear from someone about the costs as I could not find info on the costs. I have seen old PG showcases where there is film on most all players. I would assume these clips are part of the PG event and not part of the SkillShow film. Can anyone confirm this?
REDHEAD

Make sure you know what schools where in attendance --this is the first thing---I do not know what other showcases do but we have a sign in sheet at the entrance so all players and parents know who is there---knowing who attended you can follow up with the ones you have an interest in and find out if they have any interest in you

Been

SKILLSHOW--they do our showcases as well---films the entire event and every players in the process--they then edit it down for whomever wants one of their packages---as for cost they have a number of packages with varying costs--for me they are the VERY BESToin the business

Hope that this helps you both

Beenverygoodtome and Redhead,
My son will also be attending PG this weekend, and it is our first showcase of this type. We are also interested in any info. on the skills show program and the value/levels it offers....Just got some info. in the mail on it.

Looking forward to heading to Waco this weekend, esp. after rewatching the DVD Showcase last night, should be a great weekend. Good Luck to your son's and have a great Showcase!!!!

BTW: which color team is your son on, mine is on the white team.
Oldbat/Redhead,
Hope your weekend (or more appropriately your son's weekend) went well. We had to miss this weekend due to circumstances beyond our control. Will try to reschedule to another showcase...but now have to fly or drive a long way. I am interested in hearing about any lessons learned from this weekend so we can be prepared for where-ever we go. Thanks for any insights you can provide.
Beenverygoodtome:
Sooooo sorry you missed it and I hope everything is ok............and that you get the opportunity to do this showcase sometime soon..... we just returned and I have to say it was everything I had expected and more......This was our first showcase, of this level, and I would go back over and over and wished we had done this sooner.... It is so well run, Baylor has OUTSTANDING facilities and there were many, many colleges represented as well as several Major League teams. I felt the time my son was given to showcase his ability as a position player, hitter and pitcher was very generous.

This was also our first wood bat experience and as a mother of a pitcher I was thrilled to see how the element of danger, that I perceive with alum. bats was eliminated, and of course using wood made it a defensive game......

If you haven't watched the Showcase DVD I highly recommend it prior to attending this or any PG event. We watched it a couple times before we left and once we got there the comfort level was amazing as we knew what the format was and what my son would be asked to do.

It was a great experience and I hope everything works out ok at home and your son gets the opportunity to do this in the near future.

I remember #3 from the weekend! Also, #7 White got a nice hit to left field in the game before ours. It was a beautiful facility and everything ran very smoothly. The only negative was the heat - an even 100 just before our game time. However, there is another PG showcase in Lafayette on August 12 - that just has to be the worst. Every one representing PG and SkillShow was approachable and answered the few questions I had. I saw several scouts but they did not have a sign in sheet for them. PG said they started with 45 scout packets and had less than 10 on Sunday morning. With their help we identified about 15 schools that were represented. This was my son's first showcase and I was proud of him. Even though he has not batted in over 2 years - he took BP and put the wood on the ball. It would have shocked his coach! He had great control and good velocity. Gave up one hit and no runs. He said he was not nervous when he started the game - that was the best part. (Didn't know how he would react to the scouts) I saw a lot of players struggling early in the day - probably just trying too hard. Anyway - whenever his BB career is over I may have to become a scout - or maybe I will just pretend to be one so I can have an excuse to go these events! Also - did you notice there was not a single player from the Waco area? I have heard that BB is not such a big deal in that area, but I still thought it was odd.
Redhead,
I got 1/2 to Waco and left my note at home with your son's team color and number and was soooo mad at myself as I wanted to take note of him. Sounds like a great experience for him!!! I ditto you on the heat, I got home and thought I had a nice baseball tan going and realized that it was possible to add a burnt layer on top of it....YUCK.......

I did notice that about Waco, amazing since they have Baylor with such a great field/program and of course Riverbend Park for youth programs........

Thank you for the compliment on my son's hit, like yours he has not had the opportunity to hit for his HS team, he is a pitcher only, but did get to dust off the bat for his summer team. Hitting with a wood bat was all new to him as well, just went out and got one 2 weeks prior to the event, just glad it held up and he made contact....

Congrats on the pitching that is excellent!!!!!! And being calm in that arena is a HUGE plus!!!!!! Were you able to find out his velocity? That is one question my son had for me and I had no answer and might not for a couple of weeks......Might just have to wait for the reports..... Good luck to you this Fall and upcoming Spring Season.........Hope you receive lots and lots of interest!!!!

BTW Momandcpa's son was on the Red team.

Mine was the first pitcher in the Maroon (#18)/ Columbia Blue game on Saturday. (Tall, blonde, swesweatyaty kid) If you were as hot as we were, you probably bugged out as soon as your game was over. Have not heard what his velocity was clocked at - we thought he might be a mile or so quicker than usual. We will have to wait and see.
I would have stayed to watch the next 2 games but after being there since 8:40am, no lunch and the heat we decided to get out of dodge for A/C and foood.... sorry I didn't get to see your son pitch, esp since he did soooo well.....

I had planned on at least making it back for the night game, to watch momandcpa's son but with the new start time and having the first game the next morning after little sleep the night before it was an early dinner and early night.........

Glad you had a good experience.........maybe our paths will cross again...
