My son, a 2014 catcher, received an invitation today to the PG National Showcase that is held in the Metrodome.  It falls during our legion season and his coach is reluctant to excuse him.  However, I think he may in this case because it does not conflict with the conference schedule.  I have some questions that I am hopeful someone can answer so that my son can present some facts to his coach about the event to show him that it is a good opportunity.

1.  How many players typically participate?

2.  Is there a good representation of college coaches scouting the event?

3.  Any other insight or thoughts on this event from those who have attended?

I have looked at the 2012 PG National blogs and it is evident that there is a lot of talent represented.  I am just looking for any additional insight that will be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I just want to follow up in case anyone has questions about PG National in the future.  As biggerpapi indicated, this is a "MUST" attend event if the opportunity is presented.  I will give big props to Perfect Game for organizing this event and putting the collection of talent together.

My son simply hasn't had the opportunity in Montana to play with and against the level of talented kids that were playing at PG National.  He sat in the dugout and on one side of him was a giant of a kid who topped out at 99mph on the mound. A college coach in front of me said he might go #1 next year in the draft.  On his other side was a shortstop ranked at the top of his class.  It was awesome for him.

The showcase itself was great too and I think my son held his own.  Both of the pitchers he caught were mid-90's and one ran his FB up to 97.

I spoke to one mlb scout from the Phillies and he told me that each team was probably 4 deep with scouts.  I also say almost every major college program was represented.

All-in-all I can't say enough good things about the event.  I really commend Perfect Game for putting it together.

Perfect Game National is the cream of the exposure crop, my sons were very honored to have been able to participate in this event (2002, 2008, 2010), possibly the crown jewel of all Perfect Game opportunities, in a class by itself.  If a player gets an invitation to PG National, drop everything to get him there (and the road to PG National can often start at a PG regional underclassman or Top Prospects showcase, so it can be very important for a player and his family to get on the PG radar as soon as it makes sense to do so, we actually started when my sons were pretty young).
