Has anyone done this one in years past? Do college coaches come to watch or is it more of a "showcase for reports" kind of event?

Obviously it is a national showcase - and thus the level of competition is likely to be higher - but how would it compare from an exposure perspective to the California Underclass Showcase that happens roughly a month later (which is a lot easier to get to from California Smile )?

This showcase takes place during a "Quiet" period.
NCAA definition:
Quiet period - permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution's campus.

I don't remember seeing a lot of DI's at last years showcase. I do remember seeing some college and definitely some pro scouts. But what struck me more than anything else was the number of coaches from the "elite" travel teams were in attendance. I specifically recall the Midland Redskins were there.

Competition was excellent. While we haven't received an invite at this, we are hoping to attend again this year (08 grad).
My son attended the National Underclass last year (08 pitcher), and while I didn't see may colleges in attendance I still think that if you are at the top of your game, this was an outstanding event for an underclass player to attend. You will get a real/unbiased review of your current abilities as well as see how you stack up against your piers at a national level.

Most of our kids are big fish in rather small ponds; this is a great chance to see if you are ready to go into deeper waters.
Traveldad-
There are numerous ways your son could have been invited: referral, participation in a WWBA or BCS event. You can also request an invite for this event.

If you really want to know for sure, I suggest you contact Jim Arp at PG. He is the National Scouting Director and manages all invites.
I have emailed him AND spoken to him live. He is friendly, responsive and helpful!!!!

GOOD LUCK!
