Only the pool winners will advance to bracket play. PG events use a 32 team bracket system. They changed the larger events this year to 7 pool play games (8 teams per pool), and no consolation games. This means that the number of pool winners + wild cards = 32.

For 17u, the max of 32 pools of 8 were entered, so no wild cards. However, you do have 7 pool play games, not just 4 like in the past. Therefore one loss teams can still win the pool. Heck we would've won our pool last week in the 18u with 2 losses! (unfortunately we lost 3!)

I think this new system of 7 game guarantee and all those 7 games pretty much matter is MUCH MUCH improved over the 4 pool play games + consolation. The consolation games were always a mess...

my .02 cents worth...
I agree with CBH on the 7 game pools. It's great knowing up front that you will have at least the seven games to be able to plan out pitching
rotations. We have had great competition in 3 of our 5 games so far this week. (two ended in walk-offs).

All of the fields we played on, with the exception of Wheeler, were in great shape.

Most importantly, the boys are having a great time and we are seeing some great baseball.
Not related to your tourney... we are in/was in the 15u BCS Finals. We were 3-0 in the first rd an 2-1 in the second rd. We ended up the 17th seed. This tounamement had the best competition we've seen all year. We did not quaify for bracket play, A team that went 0-3 in the first rd, went 3-0 in the scond rd. and seeded fifth. What's the point of playing the first rd? This tourny was very disappointing..imo. the boys played their arse off. I've given a vague synopsis...opinions are appreciated.
For the BCS games it is clearly stated the first 3 games have nothing to do with seeding. The 2nd round of 3 games-16 pool winners advance. As you found out a team can go 5-1 and not advance and another can go 3-3 and advance. So while you had a good tourney going 5-1, not sure what your beef is when these are the rules. You say it was the best competition you faced, but then you say it was a disapointing tourney??
