Under Fed rules if a batter carelessly throws a bat the ump can issue a team warning and eject the next offender from the game. (Rule 3-3-1c)
If a batter deliberately throws a bat, helmet, etc., the umpire can immediately eject the offender from the game. (Rule 3-3-1m)

However, in neither case is the batter called out for the infraction.

In the situation above, if the ump wished to eject the player he should have done so at the end of playing action and called for a substitute runner at second base.
