OnWabana,

Good quote! And I think Vance just proved him right:

After 3 sparkling shutout innings (0 runs, 3K, 1 hit, 1BB), Vance got into a bit of a tight spot in the 4th, issuing 2 walks with 1 out. But he pitched his way out of it, getting 2 routine fly ball outs with two runners on.

WOOHOO, Phillies just scored 2 in the bottom of the 4th - Phillies lead 2-0!

5 Ks for Vance so far, all on called 3rd strike. Cool!

^ Batter looking, not swinging. Uh-oh, that was a strike! Go sit down. Smile

Phillies lead 2-0 after five.

P.S. I love the MLB package on cable. Smile

P.P.S. Phillies 4-0, middle of 6th. Vance is probably done since he's around 100 pitches, after throwing 89 pitches on Sunday in AAA.

Way to go, Vance!

Thanks everybody! My knuckles have relaxed enough to allow me to type now. Smile

I knew, as always, that there would be a great show of support here from my fellow hsbbwebsters.

Got the unexpected text yesterday morning that he had been recalled by the Phillies.

We knew it was going to be tough for Vance to break into this rotation, c'mon Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, Hamels and Blanton??!! We were just happy to see him make the most of this opportunity. Plus his first major league hit...that was exciting too.

He was awesome. He did make the most of his opportunity. I hope he gets a chance to stay up for awhile, nothing worse than the AAA shuttle.

Not sure that many can understand, that in this game, that you can be THAT good and still not be at the ML level.
This town can be a tough place to play. Mike Schmidt once said, "Only in Philadelphia can you experience the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day." Ha, not today. Everything is positive.

Mom, what's up with the glasses? He took them off when he came out. (should have given them to the ump)

Phillies' Worley looks ace-like in dominating Mets

An interesting coincidence: The Phillies also recently called up the son of a very good friend of mine, a young man who my son caught bullpens for every Christmas break for the last five years or so: Mike Stutes.

Mike had his major league debut on April 25th, a 1-2-3 inning. I watched the video, and I could see how nervous he was.

How fun is it to see players you know make it all the way to the top of the pyramid!
This is outstanding! Vance is a great young man with a very bright future.

I can remember the very first time I ever saw him pitch. He was 15 or 16 and was pitching for the Natomas Indians against my Vipers team. He made us look totally stupid, and I think he struck out something like 15 batters in 7 innings. Even back then, you could see he was special, but THIS is special now.
