1. Not in 1 continuous motion fake 3rd and to first. But if you are using the rule book it states the only base you can not feint a throw to is first base.

The (engaged) pitcher can't feint or throw to an unoccupied base except to make a play on a runner.

yes, I didnt see only a runner at first. That is correct you cant fake to 3rd if no one there. I skipped ahead, because we were called for a balk on that play with runners at 1st AND 3rd. The umpire swore he played in the minors and that was a balk. His justification was a lefty can't fake to 1st, so a righty cant fake to 3rd. It really didn't matter we lost the discussion even though I knew he was wrong.

Not the same situation, that was definately a balk in your case.

The owner of the one recognized pro-schools has said that former pro players are the hardest to educate and train to become umpires. By that level, player and coach induced myths are really hard to dispel.

This leads me to a new question around the same topic. Can someone legally and properly define for me what is meant by the term "when the pitcher's foot crosses the rubber"? Front plane? Back plane (which implies it much cross the entire rubber)? Must the entire foot cross it, or just break the plane? Help....

If the Entire foot crosses the back plane of the rubber, the pitcher must deliver to the batter or step and throw to second base. If he does anything else, It is a balk.
