In tracking pitch count, balls, strike and fouls are pretty obvious.

How does HS baseball track the pitch that gets put into play (GO, FO, Hit, etc). I read somewhere, balls put into play do not count in the final pitch count (or recorded as ball, strike or foul) for the game, but that doesn't make any sense to me.

Sorry if the question is redundant; I searched the forums and only found a reference to MLB on TV and didnt want to assume the guidelines are the same.
