In California, can you pinch hit for a starting pitcher and have that same pitcher return to the mound and pitch?
I know you can remove him from the mound, have him play another defensive position, and have him return to the mound as long as he stays in the game, but I'm not sure about the pinch hit situation.

Don't know about CA, but under FED rules, starting players can re-enter once per game.

As Dash wrote, under FED all starters are entitled to one re-entry and there is no prohibition about position they can play as long as they return in the same position in the batting order.

California plays by FED rules.
