After some time you will know posters by name and their level of experience. I know that cabbagedad is fluent enough in the rules to understand when a balk is appropriate.

Overall this site is visited by those who know a balk call is made only with a runner or runners on base. We tend to get fairly exerienced folks here, and when there is an exception, we take our time and discuss the fundamentals.

I know it's not a balk, but isn't a ball called on the batter?

Correct. No one on, award a ball to the batter. I think that's why Turtleboy brought that up.
