Ricky- I said a couple of years ago.... so not last year but the year before that (two years ago). So Gutherie's bunch made it to Farmington last year too?

Ricky - two years ago I saw both Gutherie's team and Carpenter's team go a combined 2-4 in bracket play in Premier Senior Championship in Dallas. But then, yes, then Gutherie's team went on to make championship game in Farmington at AABC. I know they have talent, but a top 5 team in the nation every year? Why didn't they win the Premier deal I was at then? You must be a dad.

Tycho, thanks for names.

So who are Gutheries or Carpenters big arms this year? And which team will have the best arms between the two?

Haha...Def not a dad. I personally don't even know Guthrie. I don't live in the DFW and I have 0 affiliation with any team in the DFW Metroplex.

As far as DBAT Guthries team goes, I can name 8 players that were drafted in the MLB 1st round off of his team in just the last 3 years!

I don't have time to look into it, but I'd be willing to bet that there is not another amateur team in the country that can claim that many 1st rounders the last 3 years. And your right, I wouldnt say top 5 nationally, i'd probably say top 2. That # doesn't even include the 2 MLB all stars that he had this past year.

And yes the last year Guthrie had a team, Perfect game had them ranked top 3 nationally if I remember correctly, and it was from all word of mouth because they hadn't even seen them play since DBAT doesn't play in PG events.

Guthrie Coached...

2004 DBAT 16U - AABC Mickey Mantle WS. A few key players from that roster were...Clayton Kershaw (LA Dodgers), Shawn Tolleson (LA Dodgers AA), Matt Sulentic (Oakland A's AA), Zach Britton (Baltimore Orioles [post season roster addition]), Justin Howard (Detroit Tigers), Austin Knight (DBU), Fielding Pittman (Texas State),...

2005 DBAT 17U - AABC Connie Mack Regional Semi Finals. Clayton Kershaw (LA Dodgers), Jordan Waldan (Aneheim Angels), Shawn Tolleson (LA Dodgers AA), Mark Cohoon (NY Mets AAA), Matt Sulentic (Oakland A's AA), Brian Holiday (Detroit Tigers A), Gary Poynter (Cincinnati Reds), Austin Knight (DBU, DBU present coach), Roberto Gallegos (Northwestern State), Heath Pugh (Sam Houston), Stuart Slackey (Arkansas), Jared Hood (UT Tyler - Hill JC present coach),...

2006 - Did not coach. Runner up father of the year.

2007 - Did not coach. Attended Farmington as coach under Head Coach Pat Leach. Runner up father of the year.

2008 - Did not coach. Last place Father of the year participant.

2009 DBAT Mustangs 17/18U - AABC Connie Mack Regional Semi Finals. Dylan Bundy (Baltimore Orioles), Archie Bradley (Arizona Diamondbacks), Bradley Marquez (NY Mets), Wes Jones (Oklahoma State), Adam Toth (Baylor), Brett Johnson (TCU),...

2010 DBAT Mustangs 17/18U - AABC Connie Mack WS Runner Up. Dylan Bundy (Baltimore Orioles), Archie Bradley (Arizona Diamondbacks), Luis DeJesus (Cleveland Indians), Micheal Miller (DBU), Micheal Bernal (Oklahoma State), Brett Johnson (TCU), Ryan Ford (Texas), Dexter Kerstad (Texas), Brode Boyd (Navarro),...

2011 - Did not coach. Abused Father of the year.

That's the best I can do right now. I left out a bunch of names I'm sure but a few guys who can fill in the blanks are...

KCR, Knights GM, Catcher, SWAC, etc.

HELP ME OUT GUYS!

I don't recall us playing in a Premier Tournament but I could be wrong. Any teams I've coached have never kept track of W/L record and we've never kept a book for stats other than what was required by AABC rules for eligibilty.

I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to coach some great talent. A few who play in the big leagues, more who are playing minor league ball, and a bunch who played or are still playing in college.

To be honest, I didn't do much but try to facilitate organization, discipline, and how to go about the game the right way.

There are so many people who have been a part of so many good DBAT teams over the years. Craig Penfold, Cade Griffis, Kermit Dow, Pat Leach, to name a few.

This coming summer, myself and former player Roberto Gallegos will be coaching a DBAT 16U team. Looking to add a pitching coach as we speak.

If it wasn't for Cade I wouldn't be coaching. Somehow he tricks me every time. Starts at deer camp over a steak, a beer, and the next thing you know I'm wearing a uniform bigger than the summers before.

It's been fun, but the thing I cherish most is the relationships that were created and continue with the players as the men they are today.

Oh, and if you want to pay $999.99, you can register for my workout camps over the next 3 years to make you the best player you can be for scouts. For an additional $19.99 I will send you our showcase list for gauranteed scholarships and pro contracts. And for only $9.99 more, you can get one of those cool hats or T-shirts that says you've been there. Choose the venue of your choice. It's a really cool piece to show your peers.

Guthrie,

Rumor was you were going to coach the top 17U team this summer with Kermit to go win it all....anyways who is coaching the top dbat 17U dbat team to take your place. I try to follow the top dbat teams during the summer, just wondering who will be coaching them. I always followed yours as it was always the best dbat team. Just curious.

KCR/Catcher,

Are you guys going to combine teams and make one power team. Or the A, B, C, route and have a few good teams with carpenter and kermit etc. Just curious where some of the players are going and what team is the one to follow this next summer.

I figured you guys would have combined a few of last years sharp team kids and some other kids and made an unbeatable team and sent them everywhere. If not who will coach the sharp team from last year, is that the best team you guys will have or will there be a better one etc.. Whats the scoop for next summer. Thanks for the update.

RV,

Carpenter will field a very talented team
Kermit Dow will have two teams
18U coached by Rose/Blair
17U pure team coached by P.Leach
Where Sharp's players along with Perry's(another very good Dbat team), you'll have to wait and see come spring!

I was going to coach a 17u team with Roberto Gallegos, but we decided it was a better fit for us to coach 16u next summer.

As I know, Pat Leach is coaching that 17u team.

I don't know if Dbat has ever done a pure 17u team prior to compete for AABC Connie Mack stakes. Regardless, it's a huge task for a pure 17u team to compete with the top 18u teams nationally.

As for the combining of teams and who's who, I can't nor care to answer those questions.

My concern is focused on my 16-20 players who make up our roster.

What uniform we wear makes no difference to me. Although, I've always affiliated myself with Dbat as Cade and I go way back. Back as far as when I beat him in the season HR race in college. Wink. If my agent can find me a better deal for the kids, I'll coach the Ladybugs if need be.

Thanks for the recognition, and I hope our club next summer shows the same success as in the past.

May mini camp...

Lesson #1 - how to throw into runner to force double play. Big Grin

You will have to find Kermit yourself. We are on different lillypad's next summer.

Tell Columbo to get ready to scratch and claw.

WOW, I love the big-headed people in Texas - apparently Dallas....

This is prob going to get way off the mark... but, it is what it is.

Panther Fan - why would anyone need to shut me up? I simply asked a question... a friend and I were having lunch the other day and I was telling him about two legit arms I saw a couple of years ago on that dbat team and couldn't remember the two kids names. If you read my origional post, tycho answered it.

Ricky Vaughan then popped off with false info. He stated that dbat goes to farmingtn every year - not true. Last three? yes. Every? No. How many times in just last 10 years? Biggest arms in Texas every year? No. Real good arms every year? Yes. Biggest? No. He had Oklahoma's biggest. Did dbat have Jameson Taillon his senior year?

I am a transplant from Pickerington, OH so I don't know all there is to know down here. I never really played the game, but my son did and was fortunate enough to play baseball for Bo Schembechler's college roommate, in a very prestigious organization.

Vaughan, I have no idea if another team in the country has more 1st round picks in the last three years... I know that the organization my son was fortunate enough to play on during high school, in the late 80's, has won the Connie Mack World Series the last three years in a row - and four of the last five. Does that count? Here's four 1st rounders though that all played on the same summer team in the same year (not bad): Jason Tyner, Kip Wells, Bubba Crosby, Jeff Austin. One of my nephews will be playing on a pretty good team this summer, maybe we'll run into each other somewhere. Here are thier returners and where they have committed:

KGut - not sure why you listed all your "trophy" players, no one asked. I only asked about two of them. By chance are you a puppet for the KCR guy? But, could you also list your CMWS Championship years? The way I see it, from where I come from, you have coached a bunch of talent, but have nothing to show. Since my son was done with high school summer ball, the organization he played for has won about 10 Connie Mack World Series Championships - not been to, won.

As much as I can scrounge up on this website, DBAT been around since the late 90's.... shoot, East Cobb has five Connie Mack Championships since then...

Vaughan, Midland goes to Farmington every year. Get your facts straight.

Kgut, deflate your ego... you've been there, just haven't done "that."

Panther Fan - I am not sure why you were even in this conversation.

Tycho- thanks again for asnswering the lone question I had.

As quality of a program the DBAT Mustangs appear to have, I just can't imagine this KCR guy being happy with the people who are on this website "promoting" him. Everyone I have spoke to speaks very highly of him (KCR).

I will let this discussion die. Sorry if I rubbed anyone one the wrong way... I was just asking a question.

Doesn't matter if I was asked. I'll list players I've coached on particular teams if I wish. No brag, just a fact. If you want to label it as "trophy" lifting, your choice. I could care less.

Yep, a puppet. Your tone turns me into Oscar the Grouch pretty quick.

Yep, nothing to show for anything. Just a bunch of pointless memories, friendships, and relationships that will last forever.

You are the one that truly deserves acknowledgement. Afterall, your son played for a team that won 10 "trophies". When my son is paying his own bills, he will have really achieved something if he played for a team that won 10 "trophies" since he finished HS. That's big time!

You just did. I'm actually laying in the fetal position ******* my thumb saying the words "I think I can, I think I can" in between the tears running down my face.

I know a guy, after he left high school, went to a school who had a teacher who actually won Father of the Year 10 times.
