Let's talk about the PO position.  I am having a problem with letting go of the team aspect of sports.  For school, there is no problem with being a part of the team as a PO.  For tournament/showcase baseball, it's becoming more apparent every year that it is much more about the individual than the team.  With the cost of travel and the reality of PO, going to a tournament just for the day of your scheduled start seems much more common.

BUT it just doesn't feel right to me.  What are some experiences with this?  The top in travel teams rarely practice.  It's expected you prepare on your own.  Just curious to hear some of your thoughts on the process as a PO in travel ball.

Thanks,

I'll disagree. My son felt just as much a part of the team as a PO as he did a position player. In fact, he coached from the bench and at first base on his off days. After his senior year the travel coach came to him and asked if he would join the staff as a assistant coach for the summer if he was not going to be playing again till he starts his college career.

On his main team, he definitely feels like a strong part.  What about the teams he has little to no connection.  He is asked to be prepared to start on Saturday and be available to throw 80 pitches.  The tournament is three states away, and the coach tells you are welcome to come throughout the tournament, but if it works better for you, you only need to be there for your start.
