In thepainguy's post it was talked about how pitcher's should end up in a good position not only to field but to defend themselves with their gloves. Another aspect of pitcher's defending themselves is from win hungry coaches who force them day after day to pitch. Many young pitchers don't really know how to say no when they feel like a game is on their shoulders or they might let their team down if their arm is hurting. I know I did this when I was about 12 years old but I learned quickly especially after needing to go to physical therapy (I'll add ever since I watch my arm carefully and have been pain free and better than I was before). It needs to be taught that pain is not something you pitch with, especially when in the elbow or shoulder. Kids need to know the facts of how many teens have surgeries due to overuse. It's pretty much a sad thing that coaches get so caught up in winning that they forget the health of a player, whether that player has potential to go far in baseball or not.
