I need some advice from all you experts! My son is a senior starting pitcher on his HS varsity team. He has an excellent fastball (86-87) and a good changeup but the coach is trying to change him into a curve ball pitcher. (average 20-30 curve balls in 50 pitches) The coach calls every pitch and wont let him change and as a result his starts have not been good. My son is very depressed and is losing all his confidence on the mound. He has spoken to the coach and so has my husband but things have not changed. Maybe some of you have had the same experience and could give him some advice?

95% of the time I will side with the coach and say it is his call.

This time I won't. If the boys is not comfortable throwing that many curves, and has not been effective in trying, he should be able to go with what works and is is comfortable throwing.

Good news is he is a senior and won't have to play for him much longer.

Unfortunately since your son and husband have talked with the coach I have no suggestions what so ever. Maybe some of the HS coaches can help.

He could start complaining that he elbow is hurting from throwing so many curves but the coach will probably see through it.

Sorry I have been no help, but I understand your frustration.
