One of the coaches in our league used this as a regular tactic.  He typically had 2 solid starters.  They would go thru the order with pretty much all FB's, maybe one or two breaking balls just to plant some seed of doubt.  Seems like he'd try to go 4 innings.  Then, the last three, it felt like you were facing a different P with more stuff.  He was pretty successful with it.  Initially, I was of the same thought process as others here but as I watched this over the years and thought about the nuances, it started to make more sense.  Obviously, it wouldn't be as successful against a stacked offensive lineup top to bottom but how many HS programs have that?  For those programs, I have seen the opposite be effective - throw soft, soft, soft.
