Get her to give the correct info not "WHAT SHE THINKS" in terms of facts and I get off her back
Read her posts--not many have any substance---mostly it is "I have heard "type of stuff--she has put herself in a position where she dispenses info and everyone believes what she says when half of it isnt valid
It isnt a feud-- but she has sent out info which in many cases is not totally correct---I dont like that and I will confront her just as I would confront you if I think you are wrong--my approach is what it is but I find it funny to be reprimanded by many who don't even understand the entire picture

are you a moderator?
TR,
Let me put it differently, what do you charge to take a player to Jupiter? What does it include? I know it's a different type of event, but I imagine it might be the biggest one your teams attend.
What I'm trying to get at is how far off do you think this $3500 figure is. Are your fees anywhere near that amount? What is the most you have charged?

We set our fees differently--- we charge a fee to cover our direct costs for us and our staff plus insurance etc--and players get full uniforms for the event
Many of our parents have travel miles with airlines as well as merit points at hotel
Our fees plus the players travel and lodging cost don't get close to the 3500 figure per player
But it not truly about the money it is about BEING SEEN !!!!

Unforunately it becomes about the money, when you dont have it.

I think what you meant to say was " I want to hear from the player, not you ---OK ".
A big fat Okie Dokie back to ya TR.
I will look for answers from other posters, for my answers.
Lord forbid I might learn something from another poster's question and in turn have a few questions of my own.
This thread is titled:
Player Development and help w/ College Recruiting, isnt it?
My player doesnt have time, nor do his team mates, to ask questions on the internet during their season.

Would you please explain what you mean by "Here Comes the Ladies Guild?" I don't understand the point of this expression.... but Iv'e noticed you refer to it several times

OKIE DOKIE---LOL---what i said was not ignoring you and you see that now or I hope you do.
I also have found in my experience that if you want to get the answer to something you FIND THE TIME to do so---that is a pure cop out
Tjhat is like telling the boss --"i did not have time to finish the project"---you know what --don
't leave at 5 PM--stay and get it done=== another symptom of todays world-- "I have no time"---well make the time--how do you think anyone succeeds---success don't come to you--you have to go get it !!!

I agree. It does become about the money, when you don't have it. There IS cost for all of this baseball. And pretty soon, out of necessity, it goes back to being a "game", rather than a dream or way of life.

Thanks, TR.
I did a quick calculation from an old announcement; 2 events with 72 teams each, and I estimated 12 players per team. That's over 1700 kids competing for 36 spots for the next level where they compete (at no further expense I believe) for the final roster of 18 players. If gametime's realistic goal is to be one of the final 18, it might be worth $3500. Being on TeamUSA's Youth National Team is a huge recognition and positions the player on many important radar screens.
If gametime's reality is that the final 18 is a longshot, do you think the $3500 fee a good value?
I've read that some teams charge $250 to attend this event. That is a considerable difference.

Well golly gee wilipers,......I never knew that.
So used to having everything just handed to us, in our laps on a silver plated platter, that I guess we forgot the true meaning of fortitude.
I hear ya TR. I hear ya.
For some players its about being in the now and focusing on the game or
practice at hand. Its not always about what or where it will get them in the future. Its about now and being the best you can be.

If I hated men and their attitudes, I wouldnt have offered you a fresh cup of hot coffee this morning,...in a smiley cup, at that!
Perhaps I should have offered biscotti.

The 16U tournament requires a roster of 15 to 20 players, so the pool of kids competing is probably closer to 2300. Teams can carry players who are too old (by 7 months)to qualify for the international age cutoff, but I doubt that this is very common.
The cost of the tournament is $2000, so a single player's share is $100-$133. The Baseball Factory setup includes lodging and food (8 days), which will likely be about $800, depending on how many players per room, and how well the players are fed. Many teams that go are established and have existing uniforms, but BF would need to provide uniforms, and I guess that is another $100-200. Another substantial item is the cost of the coaches. The players' fees would need to cover the coaches' transportation, food, lodging, and time. If there are 4 coaches, I'd guess that would come to another $500 per player, assuming the coaches each take a salary of $1000 for the week.
In all, I suppose that the actual cost to BF is $1500 to $1700 per player.
The situation looks different for established teams. Typically the coaching is done more for love than money, uniforms are amortized over several tournaments, and it's more practical to make some economy in lodging and food, since the players are already well acquainted with each other.
And of course if the player lives near the fields, lodging can be even cheaper!
I say find a way to go to the JO, but with a different team. Like someone else suggested, post a query on HSBBW about teams looking for an extra pitcher for the JO. With your son's size and ability, you should have no problem finding someone willing to scoop him up for considerably less money.
Regarding a couple of other questions/comments, my son was one of several on his team who were too old for the international age cutoff when they went to the JO. I have never heard of separate tryouts at the JO for the national team, although they did have everyone run the 60 and do fielding before the games started. I do know that when my son's team went to the JO in Arizona, there were towers near every field with scouts who watched every game. I would imagine that they made recommendations for the national team based on what they saw on the field.

Awesome answer, 3FingeredGlove. That was informative and thought provoking.
I hope your numbers aren't challenged by a certain poster who seems to be dodging the question.

Let's see, we attended the JO tourney years ago, and
even though we live here we stayed up in Jupiter.
Taking into consideration inflation and that my son lives up there and has had to live in hotels for a few weeks and we go out to dinner often (knowing costs), I would say 3500 is extremely high and leaves lots of room for profit margin for those running the team.
You don't think anyone in this baseball business doesn't make a profit somewhere? BF is a business.
Exposure? 3500 for a few days? Even if it fit my budget wouldn't consider it, for that price. Which does not include airfare. Chances are that you might get an invite to try out are pretty slim.
I think it cost us for the event, son's team fees, room, food, admission less than 600 dollars 7 years ago. We didn't pay the coaches salaries or their expenses because they weren't in business to make money.
Son was chosen to travel to Houston to tryout for the JO team, that was worth every penny. That's where he got the exposure, in Houston.
Is that explanation acceptable TR?
I didn't have to answer your question but I did.
You've made the fool of yourself in this one, not I.

Do NOT spend that kind of money for the JOs. There are so many kids and teams out there that there is a chance your son will not even be seen by the "picking committee" or scouts, even if he is a really good player. By sheer luck, they happened to see son pitching well and chose him as one of the 18 out of Jupiter to go to Phx., to compete for the final cut. He did not make it, but being one of the top 36 players in the country changed his baseball life. He was TOTALLY just in the right place at the right time!!! We were an extra player on a local team that needed to fill a roster spot and went as a last minute thing just to compete with the best and our total cost was hotel rooms and uni's. There is NEVER a reason to spend that kind of money when there are no guarantees that your player will be seen.
Puma,
Our sons have similarities! And I agree, that amount of money is outrageous for the possibilities (the original point I was trying to make).
Back when Dave played there were only 1800 (AZ and jupiter site combined). They do have scouts at every game, but there was less competition in those days. My son got 4-5 full innings. For a pitcher (though well scouted) you get one day. If you are having an off day, you don't hit the ball, you don't catch the ball that day, you are not even a consideration.
