Do you know if they've ever done a study on signing bonus vs. what a player ends up doing. Theres a bunch of stuff on rounds, but alot of times, for whatever reason, a guy will get drafted in the third round but get second round money...18th round but get 10th round money, ect. I wonder if you analyze it by signing bonus amount does it change the statistics.

Baseball America had a great article at one time about the success rate of draft picks by round. Though there were many that did succeed from the lower rounds, the rate was higher in the earlier rounds.

RickStep, Doing it by bonus amount won't work, as the bonus money today is much higher than years ago. Will Clark-$150,000, Ken Griffey Jr.- $169,000, Matt Williams- $155,000.....they were picked in the first 3 picks of the draft. Today, they would be getting 3-5 million. Today, $150,000 is somewhere in the 5th round.

But maybe you could take each individual year from 90 to 00 and figure out each drafts return on investment...like what percentage of a major league year does one signing bonus dollar equal. And adjust for signing bonus inflation.
