I need to vent my frustration. High school baseball can be so frustrating. For some reason, our conference athletic directors decide to move all of our league games up a good week in the season (prior to spring break). We live in the northwest and let me tell you weather isn't always cooperative. Today, beautiful morning, not a cloud in the sky, a squall goes through with very light rain and after the kids have been working on the field since 8:30 AM, our AD pulls in at 12:00(other team has made the 1 1/2 hour bus trip) cancels the game. Not a baseball guy. This is not the first time he has done this this year. I am looking out the window and it is again blue sky and warm. The really bad thing is there were going to be about five or six pro scouts watching my son and another pitcher. Thanks for listening, I think I might feel better now.

LHPitcher,

I just returned from a 6-hour drive each way to watch my son's college team play 3 games Friday-Saturday. It was cold (low 40s) and windy (20 mph with gusts up to 30-40!) both days, felt like below freezing with the wind.

During the final game today I was thinking (with chattering teeth) "What miserable conditions for these guys to play in - and for the fans to watch." And then I thought, "Would any of us rather be somewhere else? NOPE!!!"
Did he get to pitch? I hate to even tell you that it ended up sunny and 70 degrees here after they cancelled the game. I don't know how you could have had a better day for baseball. Especially since the opposing team was already here. I hope everything went well on your trip. That is a big road trip. Those metal bats hurt when it is that cold out. Been there done that.

LHPitcher,

Yes, my son's team did pretty well, winning 2 games and losing the 3rd by 1 run. My son relieved in the final inning of one of the wins, coming in with 1 out and 2 runners on and getting the next 2 batters out with just a few pitches, so he was happy with that.

Wow, your weather does sound perfect for a game, what a shame that the AD cancelled prematurely!

Julie - that sounds like very good progress is being made Smile I think the coaches there are building his confidence in a nice way.

LHPitcher - I am sure the pro scouts will be back regardless of what the AD decides to do. Sounds very positive for your son Smile

Born and raised in the Northwest, I feel your pain..

On Friday half the leagues games were rescheduled. The day started sunny and warm, by noon it was light rain. At 1:30 it was sunny and cool. At 2:00 it was raining. At 3:00 it was sunny, warm and windy. At 4:00 it was cloudy and dead calm. By 7:00 the stars were out.

Welcome to the Northwest.
