This doesn't happen to everyone. But ...
i knew this kid who was a workhorse catcher. He caught as much as he could. His father ignored the warnings. One night my son told me he thought the kid was addicted to pain killers. He got confirmation from a high school teammate of the kid. The kid admitted he was taking painkillers.
The kid goes off to college to play ball. His arm got sore again. He illegally obtained painkillers. He never got on the field and transferred. He sat out a year. He came back the next year and his arm acted up again. Three years of college committed to baseball and not one inning on the field. The net of it is the kid destroyed his arm in high school, covered it up with painkillers, became addicted and trashed his arm worse.
Just a story of one player.
