Im guessing you are talking about a hit to the outfield? If so if its to the first base side of the field you cover 2nd and the 2nd baseman goes to the outfield for the cutoff. If its to the 3rd base side 2nd baseman covers 2nd and you go to the outfield for the cutoff. If its a grounder in the infield same thing other then going for the cutoff. Instead you back up the 2nd baseman if he's covering the bag. If your covering the bag he backs you up. If you are talking about a bunt it depends on how your coach wants you to cover a bunt

Trevor, how many outs? Maybe the hitter is a fake bunt. Is it a squeeze plat?

keep your position, do not move until the batter indicates his role.
