I think the best match-ups are the District 6 vs District 5 match-ups.

Coppell wins the district and gets to play Colleyville Heritage. The teams match-up very well, each has three good starts that didn't finish district play as well as they would have hoped and they have good relief pitching and both team can hit.

Hebron vs Southlake - is another match-up of two teams that look alike. Of coarse the winner most likely gets Arlington Martin.

Flower Mound vs. Grapevine are two teams that got hot at the end of the year and have found some pitching late.

I think Keller might find Lewisville will be a tough match-up. I thought Lewisville looked like a solid ball club, I didn't get to see Keller but any team with Merck and Muncy on it will give everyone a fight.

I think they split with each district winning 2...I just won't predict which two - JMHO
In 3A - Region 4, #1 Castroville-Medina Valley and #2 Cuero should meet up in the regional semi. In Region 2, #9 Frisco-Wake and #10 Gilmer should play in teh regional semi. Region 1-3A looks like the easiest bracket. Decatur, Argyle and Sanger are the local teams. Snyder (6) is the only Top 10 team in the Region 1 bracket.

In 4A, watch for Ryan(7). They have a pretty deep pitching staff, and their bats are hot. They'll have to get by Heights(6) early in the tournament. Other locals are Waxahacie(9) and Poteet(2). But the best 4A game could happen in south Texas before the state tournament - Corpus Calallen(1) v. Corpus Moody.
Kirk,
I agree. Haltom was strong and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker and on any given night, Keller Central, Richland, and Northwest could beat anyone.
6-5A versus 5-5A will have eight really good teams out there battling.

Watch out for Southlake Carroll!!!
11sdad,

I'm not sure what our rotation will be yet. What Smart Son told me last night was Parker Sheets would most likely pitch game 1, and after that, he wasn't sure yet. We lost our #1 a couple of weeks ago when Luke Hamilton broke the pinkie finger on his left (pitching) hand. That really hurt us!

Hope we have three really good games!!
CC Moody and CC Calallen are on a collision course to play in the region 4 final, if the can both manage to get there. Last year it was a little disappointing to see them meet in the area round. but that didn't stop a total of over 18,000 fans from watching the games over a 3 game series. And boy, was it a barn burner. The series could have gone either way. In fact, Calallen was the only team last year that managed to beat Moody, and they did it twice! This year may be the sequel. These two teams have won two of the last three 4A state titles. Of course I like my Trojans to go all the way again. Smile

Sorry to disappoint but 6-5A held there own and when you look at the teams they play (district and non-district), they can play with anyone. Both teams remaining from 6-5A are not rich in experienced senior talent and both will be tough again next season as well. Just my humble opinion and no offense is intended.
Game 1
Summit 15
Midland 7

Game 2
Midland 3
Summit 13 (6 innings)

Summit is now 23-7 and will face El Paso Socorro (31-2) in the area round of the playoffs.

Game 1, Friday, 4pm, Christensen Stadium, Midland
Game 2, Saturday, 11am, Christensen Stadium, Midland
Game 3, 30 minutes after Game 2 if necessary.

We have scouted Socorro and know what we are up against. They are very talented, play hard, play with a lot spirit and very well coached. However, I think we are pretty good too, so we'll go out to Midland and give it our best. At the very least, I'll be able to give the teams in our area a very good, first hand, scouting report.
NTXDAD,
The Grapevine versus Flower Mound series could have gone either way on any game, they were that close. Grapevine is also very young with 4 starting Sophomores and only 4 Seniors on the roster.
I would like to mention though that this series became tainted in the seventh inning of game 3 when Flower Mound (Congratulations) broke it open but the players felt like they needed to taunt and trash talk the Grapevine boys, and with the game well in hand, Coach Stinson continued to try and pull antics. It showed total unprofessionalism and lack of sportsmanship on behalf of a team who I used to admire for their success.I do not think that this type of behavior should be tolerated in HIgh School sports. I would hope that Coach Stinson and his staff apologize for their behavior. A much larger 5A aschool beat a small 5A school but the true winners were the Grapevine players who lost with class and dignity.

Just to add a positive note, not about winning or losing but about winning with class. The Plano West (Players, Coaches and Fans)celebrated without belitting or diminishing their opponents in any way. Although I do not enjoy losing, it was nice to see two really good baseball games - games that all there is to talk about is the results on the field.

Good job Plano West boys - best of luck in the tournament.

What part of this post set you off. It sounds like sour grapes since your only focus is directed at FMHS. GV was not mentioned in my original post.

While I'll agree the games could have gone either way, the discussion was not about the game. It was one opinion vs. another on how the games actually went in District 6-5A vs 5-5A.

As far as the "unprofessionalism" goes, obviously you're viewing that through your Grapevine glasses. Both teams played at a high level with few errors. Both teams were playing with very spirited attitudes. Welcome to 5A playoff baseball.

We've played many of the top teams in the metroplex and they are all "spirited" games. Some more, some less but like it or not, it is part of the game. There was a resent thread on this very topic with many opinions expressed. There is a line that can be crossed but that line was not even approached in this series nor game.

Let me be clear, there were not any threats, obvious taunting, nor other out of character emotions expressed during this 5A baseball series. Just two good teams playing their respective hearts out.

Now, all that being said, congratulations to the GV players for a fine season. We know many of the GV players and families and spoke with them during the entire tournament. They are a class group and we enjoyed them hosting the FMHS team on Saturday. Much like FMHS, and many other teams we've seen this season, they are young and will be a threat for years to come. We wish them luck.
Frisco played a great series and should be congradulated on playing with heart and class. Joe Felts in particular stands out. He shut HP down Friday night and won the game with a clutch hit. He came back on Saturday to start game 3 (after 40 pitches on Friday) to throw almost 100 on Saturday.

The entire HP team played well and contributed.

HP plays Texarkana next. We're hearing Thursday @ HP and Saturday at Texarkana but don't have confirmation yet.

Am I reading the UIL brackets right? Flower Mound beat Grapevine. Lewisville beat Keller. Coppell beat Colleyville. How many 5-5A teams that does leave? SL Carroll.. they beat the 6-5A 4th seed. Am I missing anybody?
