You've gotten some great advice. I'll share a drill a came up with (I probably got it from somewhere / someone but I honestly don't remember where / who or I would give credit).

This will help young kids understand the majority of the power in their swing is generated by the "big" part of the body.

Get a tee. Set a ball on it.

Have the hold the bat behind their back. They grip bat with their hands behind their back and the bat is perpendicular to their body. Hard to describe.

So when they address the tee, in a normal stance, the bat is behind their back, the barrel is facing away from where the pitcher would be.

Have them turn their BODY to make the bat move and hit the ball off the tee. Young kids are fun with this, because it’s new. It’s different.

Another one I like is have a kid setup and I would actually get kneel down behind the kid, and hold his waist with my hands. I’d the tell the kid to setup like normal and tell him “Whatever you do, don’t let the bat move.”

I’d then simply turn their hips. And of course that bat would move.

Keep it simple and fun.

Hips need to be bottom of top, not top of bottom.

Have you ever worked with 5-9 year old kids?

Go ahead and tell them that.
There is a thread in this hitting forum called "Some great hitting drills" I believe it was posted by Chris F, videos by Connor Powers. You have to follow a link and sign up, does not cost anything, but I reallr liked a copuple of the vids. I like the shuffle into seing drill and the focus on the inside half of the ball drill. Now I know itts not for everyone and I modified it a little for my middle son but it helped him tremendously....give it a look, it may just give you some extra drills to try.

There are 5-9 year old kids out there who will understand what I mean with minimal explanation.
I wanted to give one last update as our season ended Saturday.

That big game I was talking about was Friday night, it was for 2nd place in our league. My son went 3-4, all three hits were hard shots to the outfield for in the park home runs.

His last at bat he crushed the ball, I'm the pitcher so I saw the ball go high and far but I then turned my focus to him rounding the bases but the opposing coach told my first base coach that it was the biggest hit he saw this year. We won the game 21-11 and took 2nd place.

At the closing ceremonies on Saturday he was announced to the All Star Team. As I said his glove has been good all year, his hitting has come around tremendously in the last week, I know his swing isn't perfect but we can get there, we've got a lot of great help and advice. Looking forward to playing some more baseball on the All Star team.

Thanks Everyone
