infielddad and all,

Thank you for continuing to pray for Ben and his family. We are still in a waiting stage. Last night as he began to come out of his coma he was able to respond with a nod to a friend. He had some difficulties though and was medicated back into a lighter coma to rest for a while longer, so that is his status today.

Julie
Heavenly Father, today we ask that you wrap your loving and most gracious arms around young Ben and his family, friends, and the physicians that you have empowered with the ability to help heal his broken body. Father, we are all broken; still, you pour your love and protection over us. We ask that you be most merciful today with young Ben. Father, we are sometimes unable to understand the plan that you have laid out before us, even before we were conceived in this earthly body. We ask that you guide us in knowing that your will be done and hold us to our faith in times such as these. We are at your mercy, Father.
Amen
Update on Ben: A slight improvement.

They had him propped up in his bed for a while and he was opening his eyes a little. He also nodded his head in response to something his mother said.

He has pneumonia now because of one week spent lying motionless (fluid buildup in the lungs). They have him on a very strong antibiotic and have also put him on a constant motion bed to improve his circulation. He is still in ICU and hooked up to many machines and tubes.

We still do not have any solid news about the status of brain functioning, but he had a brain scan and "all indications are that things are good". That sounds promising!

Please continue to pray for Ben and his family.

WONDERFUL NEWS!

Today they were able to remove Ben's ventilator tube. He is still receiving oxygen through a mask over his nose, but he is relearning to breathe on his own.

He cannot speak yet because of his 10 days on the ventilator, but he wrote a note that he feels fine and wants to go home!!!

And, he was sitting up in bed today watching the Twins game on TV!!!

He is still a long way from full recovery, but this makes us all SO happy! Thank God for this wonderful news!

Thank you all for your prayers!

Julie
Beezer,

C'mon, our Twins have been on a winning streak. Can they help it if while they were winning 15 of their last 16 games, Detroit and the White Sox ahead of them keep winning too? Roll Eyes

But we have so many great young players coming up - home town boy Joe Mauer with his .392 batting average, and Justin Morneau with 19 HRs. And I will watch Johan Santana or Francisco Liriano on the mound any day! I predict Twins in the World Series some time in the next three years!!!

OK, 'nuff said, but my son was delighted to hear that Ben was watching the Twins game from his hospital bed, figured it would be great medicine! Big Grin
WOOHOOO!!!! Ben came home from the hospital today!

He is still pretty weak, and had a defibulator implanted in his chest yesterday. The doctors determined that he had a cardiac arrest, but not a heart attack. That is, his heart stopped beating in the middle of the night for some as yet unknown reason, but it wasn't the standard blockage/lack of oxygen to the heart, etc.

We have been worried all this time about whether his brain had been damaged during the time his heart was not beating. Today we found out that before he was able to speak (had tubes down his throat, etc.) one of the first lucid notes he wrote when he was fully awake included my son's full name - and since he spelled "Sigfrinius" correctly, they decided he must be okay, LOL!

Ben will be resting at home for a while longer, but is expected to make a full recovery. From his mom finding him apparently dead, to a week in a coma, to this ... we are all just thrilled.

Thank you all for your prayers, and Thank You, God!

That is absolutely awesome news. And let's not forget that amazing dog who sensed something wrong and took action. Someone was watching over Ben. That someone watching over him and all these great websters seemed to have brought home a winner. I am so happy for you. Can literally feel the exhilaration from your post.
Gosh, this is a pretty darn good day. Emailed Justbaseball today and confirmed Erik and Mom are arriving home safe and sound from Boston. Imagine there is a real nice, and very well deserved, celebration in the Davis household too.
Just got back from the Junior Olympics a few days ago.. great news.

The late pope John Paul once said, "Through suffering comes salvation and grace." I'm glad to see this young man pull through by the grace of God.

Annette, thanks for the private post. I tried to respond but it didn't work. Peace to you, too, and good luck in baseball!
