It depended on the rule code you were using during the game.....

If it was NFHS or NCAA rules, then you have verbal interference....

rule cite: NFHS 2-21-1a
"interference is any act (physical, visual or verbal that impedes, hinders or confuses the defense"

In OBR (which most summer leagues use) this is not interference..

In OBR it is not interference if the intent to interfere is solely verbal....meaning, to me, that at the big boy level, you are expected to know your own teammates voices....

I have known umpires to eject players for unsportsmanlike conduct for that type of play....

So, if NFHS or NCAA, you have interference and an out, in OBR you simply have a foul ball......

Hope this helps.

An umpire who calls out that "he has the ball" is communicating to his partner that he will have the ball (catch) and for his partner to take the tag up if any or base touches

In my chapter this would be seen as a sign of the crew not working an accepted umpiring mechanic.....In HS we use a mechanic which the crew clearly knows before the game who has the catch and who has tag up or touches at bases based on the position of the ball.....

Catch 15......

That is a legal decoy.......and in my opinion not unsportsmanlike conduct.....
well at the time I just called foul ball and the coaches and parents started screaming so I huddle with my field ump and he said "HE DID YELL I GOT IT" so I called him out on verbal interference BUT then I asked the league president and he said that it was a foul ball and I should of ejected the runner so I guess we were playing obr rules by the way these kids are 13-15
