Congratulations to Portsmouth High School and to those in the community who supported the players associated with the winning streak.

I know there will be those who say they did it once they dropped down a class. Its a valid point and probably wouldn't have happened if they remained in Class L (Div I).

Regardless its still a great accomplishment to win 74 games in a row! Baseball is a funny game and so much can go wrong, run into a hot pitcher, a bad bounce etc. I for one never thought it would happen - eating my words as I type.

I agree with Monty. You need a lot of talent and some good luck to put something like this together. Portsmouth had to sneak by Sanborn 2-0 today to tie the record. The game was called due to rain and unsafe field conditions in the top of the 6th. The Sanborn kids showed a tremendous amount of class and sportsmanship as they applauded the Portsmouth kids after the game was called. They have some pretty good talent, and could sneak up on someone in the tournament.
I suppose, but Portsmouth also has a long history of being the biggest fish in a small pond and not wanting to test the waters of a larger lake. They started winning in little league just after they found a way to merge their 2 district to become one VERY LARGE league, with a HUGE BIG Minor progam, They win games in Babe Ruth by bending the rules too. Senior Babe Ruth is the worst, they have been caught with illegal players, and not abiding by the rules that everyone else plays by, many times just to win a game . Oh, yeah, and in last years fall ball, the Portsmouth couldn't follow the rules there either and it's coach was dismissed. It was fall ball!! Yeah, so right on Portsmouth for your winning ways...
Rae Rae, lighten up!

The school is in the correct high school division based on school size.

I'm sure all the students are residents of Portsmouth.

This is a great acheivement to winn that many games in a row.

It's unbeleivable that any high school team could winn that many games without a loss.

Congratulations Protsmouth High School!
Rae Rae you sound like a sour grapes kind of fella. As a class L/d1 coach who coached against Portsmouth and was at the last all-state meeting Coach Hopley attended in class L, I can tell you that he wanted to see what his teams could do against Class L over the coming years. It was not his choice or anyone else's in Portsmouth baseball, it was a matter of numbers. Just back off and enjoy the moment along with the rest of New Hampshire baseball.
