My 2010 son was middle infielder until he was in 8th grade, private school needed a JV catcher so that's what they turned him into, has excelled at it & loved it ever since. Since then he has played multiple infield & outfield positions on & off & pitched a little but caught all but 3 innings this past HS season. He's been going to individual showcases & college camps/tryouts but has refused to workout at any other position at these. Is he limiting himself and should he be working at infield & outfield or pitching as well?

He should work at every position. Matching position to college needs is a big factor. If he can pitch and catch, he will have more options. My son was primarily a catcher in his formative years, until Junior and Senior in high school when called upon to pitch and discovered he was All State caliber. He began as catcher while freshman in college, but was behind two other stellar catchers so to see playing time he had to make a move to pitcher, and since he was in a good position as bullpen catcher he could evaluate himself versus the other pitchers and determined he was within the top three so he committed to it.
