Powell outlasted West 9-8 in West's opener. Kevin Cummings went the distance for Powell, scattering 9 hits and home runs by Chase Powell and Sam Michalik.

West starter Adam Snyder pitched 2 designated innings and left the game leading 2-0. Aaron Hookman suffered back to back home runs and 3 consecutive infield hits enroute to a 7 run inning for Powell in the 3rd. West tied the game 7-7 on Dan Gager's double in the 5th. Powell plated 2 runs in the 6th after West mis-communicated on an infield popup. Hookman pitched very well after the shaky third. Tanner Hiles pitched the 7th for West.

Powell made several good defensive plays, including one by Lakin at 3rd and Plumlee at SS that prevented West from mounting a rally. Cummings found his curve ball late.

A dissappointing start for West, who must face a hot Webb on Wednesday, and Farragut on Friday. A good bounce-back for Powell after losing their opener to Jefferson Co.

bizazz,
Did you notice in the South-Doyle 13-0 win over Lenoir City that Scott Zurcher had 2 HR's, Chris Kirkland had a HR (2nd in two games) and Vannoy had a HR? Vannoy got the win, so I suspect his arm is fine.

Looks like South-Doyle plans on making a run at Farragut.
