For those that pray, please keep Austin Justice of Birmingham Southern in your prayers. He was playing ball just a few days ago and now is fighting a battle with very serious staph infection.

The fear is it got into the bloodstream. Just a really really dangerous condition. Thanks to all who pray for this young man, whether you post it or not.

When I was 11 I was hit with a staph infection in my blood stream. Spent a total of 3 months in and out of the hospital. A very scary and serious infection to come by.

Austin has recovered enough to leave the hospital, after the last in a series of antibiotics seems to be doing the trick. His knee was cleaned out several times. He may be done for 2012 but he's alive and will recover. Thanks to all who prayed, and to the One on the receiving end of those prayers.
Birmingham Southern has just had a rash of injuries this year so let's hope this is the start of better things for them.

You mention his knee. Did the infection come from surgery, or a knee injury? Last year, a friend went through a really scary episode of Necrotizing Fasciitis that began with a muscle pull.

Glad to hear this boy should be ok. Staph infections are awful. A handful of years ago, my husband had one in his sternum from surgery and to have the doctor say that "there can be mortality to this" isn't what I wanted to hear. It took two major surgeries and many months for him to recover. Thank God he did.
