This is an especially sad time for our family. We knew people in both vehicles involved.

Brad had borrowed his sister's car. Reports are that worn tires slipping on a windy rain-soked road may have been the cause of the wreck.

The non-use of seatbelts also is an issue in this tragedy.

Here's a portion of the article from the Knoxville newspaper:
quote:
Sonner, a senior, had played baseball for three years at Seymour High School.

His coach, Scott Norman, said Wednesday night that Sonner was "an outstanding athlete."

"He just had a lot of potential as a future player," Norman said. "He was a good hitter - hitting over .500 - had a great arm and ran really well."

Sonner had played infield but was playing in the outfield this year.

"Brad had played baseball since he was 5 years old," Russ Sonner said. "He started in T-ball at 5."

He also played golf and recreation league basketball.

"Bradley played on the middle school and high school golf team," said Barry Shuler, owner of Creekside Plantation golf course where Sonner often played. "He was really into golf. I saw him play in matches and when he practiced. He was a good kid."

Russ Sonner said his son had strayed from church when he was about 15 but returned when he was 16.

"He started going to Valley Grove (Baptist Church) and rededicated his life over there and got baptized," Sonner said.

"He was preparing to go to college and hoping to play college baseball. He was well thought of. He was everybody's friend."

Our family's sincere condolences and prayers.
I can't begin to put into words the sorrow I feel. I had the pleasure of meeting Brad and Russ Sonner a few months ago at the Perfect Game, National ID Showcase in Ft. Myers. A fine young man and a fine ball player, so full of excitement and hope for the future. My prayers go out to the Sonner family and to Brad's classmates, teammates and friends at Seymore High. May God bless you with the faith, comfort and strength to make it through this tragic loss.
