South Texas Sliders 18U Orange have uncharacteristically struggled in this tourney.
The boys lost a heartbreaker in the bottom of the 7th to the Houston Heat's top team, lost 14-12 to the Columbia Angels' top team, and were humbled by Kyle Chapman's pitcher Ty Stuckey (U of H bound) 8-0. Stuckey, a talented lefty, threw 12 K's in 6 innings.

Three of our players, including our top pitcher, were lent to the Sliders' other 18U team, which has been riddled with injuries. (They are currently competing at the WWBA in Georgia.) Based on several players' comments, the team is feeling a bit disjointed right now. The entire team will be back together for the Premier 18U Championship in New Orleans next weekend and hopefully they will be able to regroup.

Mustangs 17U (Randle) went 1-2 in pool play and are not playing well at all. Maybe they can turn things around the rest of the weekend. 11 pitched one of the pool games so he's done for the weekend so we came home to get ready to head to La. for the 18U World Series this next week.

Infield08 maybe we'll run into you at one of these tournaments. Good luck the rest of the weekend.

I would have loved to report positive things about the Sliders' pool play. I did give kudos to pitcher Ty Stucky of Houston's Kyle Chapman. The Sliders team is essentially a 17U team with just two 18-year-old players and I must say that the true 18-year-old teams are much more mature physically. The three 18U Houston teams we played have players who look more like men than boys.

Today, the Sliders defeated the Austin Slam 8-4 in consolated play and will have another game at 3 p.m. today -- IF the rain stops.

Scores for the entire tourney are not posted anywhere that I know of. Teams in the winner's bracket include: Austin Wings Black, Houston Heat Silver, Austin Wings 18, Slam Senators, Columbia Angels White, Austin Wings Red, Kyle Chapman Red, and Houston Heat Black. Playoff games today are single-elimination, with the championship games for the winner's and consolation brackets to be held Sunday morning at UTSA's field.

KC Red beat the Heat Silver 8-3 this morning in a 1st round game in the Championship Bracket. They play the winner of the 2 Wings teams at 5:30 at UTSA today.

They played at Smithson Valley Friday and hit 7 or 8 HR's in the 2 games. Son told me later the Fld Dimensions were 320 down lines, 345 in gaps and 365 to center. Strange field. Very short in the middle.
