We got 6th. We dominated pool play, even though we had sloppy infield play and we were the #2 seed. We got a by, and won our first bracket play game easily. We then faced the Austin Wings and sloppy play along with 1-2 clutch hits by them got them 6 runs. We came back in the last inning but fell short 6-5. The Austin Wings were in the championship, but I don't know how they did. I would guess they lost to the Heat (if that's who they played). The Houston Heat saved all their pitching until bracket play. Even though our big pitchers didn't pitch until bracket play, our relievers were used in pool play. This brings up a question I've been wondering about in my head. Certain teams like the HH, and Houston KC, along with others, seem to treat pool play as meaningless games, sometimes even playing a totally different team of players (this is a rumor that I've heard from coaches that in no way is to point fingers). In theory, shouldn't a team always try to win with the most they are capable? Even though these teams do well in bracket play, they... sleep through pool play. I don't think there are enough reasons in this type of tournament to win your pool (the winner receiving a by). I was just wondering how you guys (and gals) felt about this?
Since every team was going to the single elimination bracket, some teams chose to save all their usual pitching for the bracket. The alternative was to play for a bye while burning your best pitchers.

The Heat, KC, etc. aren't scared of any team. So they weren't worried about ending up a low seed (e.g., potentially losing pool games by not using their best arms) in terms of playing a high seed opponent.

The rumor is just that. And an untrue one at that. Sour grapes.

Lots of talented teams.
The 16U Marshals finished 4th in the tournament. They went 1-2 in pool play, won 3 straight, then lost to the Heat (good club) and lost the third place game to the Rawlings group from St. Louis.
Our kids played with a lot guts, as they were not the best team down there (21 seed), they just played their hearts out...
Coaches Evil Dave Ostroff and Brian Thomas did a great job with these kids all summer long...
Thanks for responding heatdad and catcher, and congrats to the Heat. Great ball club!

The Marshals are a GREAT group, also. They continually give the Mustangs a run for their money! Reading this web-site, looks like all the Marshals teams are extremely competitive at all levels! Congrats to those boys, too.

Good luck to all in high school ball.
