The Prestonwood Christian Academy Lions lost today ending their perfect season today in the TAAPS 5A State Championship game.

Dallas Christian 3 Prestonwood 2
CONGRATULATIONS TO DALLAS CHRISTIAN!

The season did not end up the way that everyone had imagined, but better than expected at the beginning of the season. As a parent of one of the PCA players the 4 years have been a wonderful experience that our family will not soon forget. The four year 107-19 record belonging to the 2007 class will not soon be duplicated.

Enjoyed the information supplied on this site. Some of the friends that post on a regular basis with their passion for the game and compassion for the players that play hard for their schools such as Oldbat, Panther Dad, Clemente, Hawkman, Crawdad and others. Especially the constant banter with the Natural.

My son is looking forward to summer and hopefully a trip to the Connie Mack World Series.

The journey has not ended but just begun with college ball starting soon.

LIONS -- congratulations on a great season. I know there is much sadness, for several reasons. My "perfect" season ended (in 1977!) with our first loss of the season as well. I remember the game like it was.....30 years ago. Smile

Your team is special. I look forward to following the guys next year...and beyond.

Odd that "bragging rights" belong to a team that your guys defeated twice this year -- but congratulations to Dallas Christian -- TAPPS 5A State Champs.

Go Furman!

John,

Congrats on your perfect season, congrats on making it to the State Championship (only 2 teams make it that far) and I wish your son nothing but success this summer w/the Wildcats (you might see me at a game since I have some friends on the team) and I wish him the best next season w/Furman.

I was pulling for you today and sorry for your loss.......you are a true friend and I am glad baseball brought me your friendship......

John,
Congrats to young John and the rest of the team on a great season. This season has been a fun ride.

As far as rides go, remember when they were all so young...I remember stringing the nets with Rob at your first place only to have you re-do them the next day! The start of many hours in the cages for John. His work has paid off.

Besides being a very good ball player, John is a fine respectful young man. I hope baseball takes him a long way, but his character and hard work will take him farther.

Have a great summer.

D
Absolutely congratulations are in order for a great season and some special ballplayers. No debating that.

But would it be wrong to give a little credit to a very young DC team that battled Goliath today and came away with a huge, admittedly unexpected State Championship victory?

I think most all had come to believe that a PCA title ring was a foregone conclusion. Yes, DC's only 2 district losses were to PCA, of which game 2 at PCA was a close, 2-0 battle.

Congratulations to Coach Staley and his team (in truest sense of the word) today. A complete game victory by a Sophomore pitcher (most on this site are quite familiar w/ Brooks), who returned from off-season shoulder surgery and very limited innings in '07 (less than 5 starts, I know) hilighted the win, along will stellar defensive plays and timely hitting throughout.

Not sure how to take P-Dad's "bragging rights" comment, but one could interpret that you're intimating they are not true, deserved, or legit, "bragging rights." Maybe I'm misinterpreting. But the '07 Championship Trophy made the trip home to Mesquite, and will proudly remain.

Way to go Chargers!!
Charger Dad and Dallas Christian -

Congratulations on taking home the TAPPS 5A State Championship. You all have a great tradition...isn't this the 7th state title for DC and the 15th appearance at state? That is a fine tradition!

Coming from a program that plays you every year I can definitely tell you there is a ton or respect for Dallas Christian from our camp. We never take you lightly.

I think we need more Dallas Christian posters on hsbballweb, I like to hear about your program so keep us posted. Corey Brooks is amazing. I hope he goes full time football or basketball. Big Grin

Congrats!

Chargerdad -- I'd never disrepect DC. If you read the site, review a few of my posts. You too admit that today's game was a bit of an upset. But that's why they play the games and upsets are a reason why playoff baseball is so great. I have a "connection" to Prestonwood, but have great respect for the tradition of Dallas Christian.

I don't consider "bragging rights" to be a negative phrase. Congratulations again.

PD,
I am a daily reader of this site, but a seldom poster (as you can see). But, after such an emotional, special day for DC baseball, visiting the site I had hoped to see some mention and/or credit given. It seemed I instead saw only a PCA slant, w/ consolation comments and continued laudits for their fine season (which I acknowledge).

I take you at your word (and history) that you had no ill intent with the comment, however, typically using quotations implies sarcasm or a meaning less than what would otherwise exist. If I write that someone is a "special" player, rather than without quotations, the meaning is changed. Anyway, I'm not here to give a lesson in creative writing, only explaining why someone might interpret the comment negatively.

All congratulations and credit now given is appreciated. Although it's impossible to predict, look for a strong run from the DC baseball program. As I said, we were a very young team, losing only 2 senior starters, and several returning JV soph's who will likely contribute moving forward.

CD,
Congratulations to Dallas Christian on their State Championship. Please accept my apology for not congratulating your team sooner. The reason I was remiss is a dandy excuse. I've become accustomed to the PCA faithful on this message board. I can't remember a post by a DC regular. I'm not sure I've seen one post regularly on this board. Hopefully with their young team and great success, we'll hear more from their faithful. Once again, congrats!
I echo collikar's sentiments.

Ok, my final commment in defense of my original post........"bragging rights" was included in quotes because someone would have argued that the term is negative, "Dallas Christian won! why would they need to brag?" And the topic's subject is "Prestonwood Season Ends", started by a regular poster and a PCA dad. The natural direction of the thread is to discuss PCA. I had a chance to see the 3-4 plays collected by Channel 8.....and.....well....source for another discussion, I guess.

ChargerDad, thanks for posting. I generally try to read a post in the spirit in which it is intended rather than assume that there is some sort of back-handed agenda to criticize others, although I know that happens at times.

Maybe there should have been a separate topic on the success of the Chargers.

Peace. Smile
Lions,
Rcvd your gracious PM, thanks. It wasn't necessary, since I had no problem with your original post, and yes, acknowledge you did offer congrats. You should be proud of your team and son, as they all performed at a high level and their actions were mature and Big-League throughout.

It was much due to our respect for PCA that we were so prepared for the game. We knew nothing was won until the final out.
TAPPS sets playoff brackets so that the Champion and Runner-Up from the same district cannot meet unless in the State Championship game (i.e., the two teams must be on opposite sides of the bracket). This is not an arbitrary decision; TAPPS member schools have voted overwhelmingly several times over the years to continue this practice. Also, teams from the same district cannot play each other in the first round (example, 1st and 3rd place). Exactly when two teams from the same district (not a Champ/Runner-Up game, but rather a Champ/3rd Place or a Runner-Up/3rd Place) can meet will depend on the number of teams in the classification, and the number that are being taken into the playoffs. In the past, the brackets have been drawn so that a single district could conceivably have 3 or more teams in the State Tournament. However, recently the TAPPS brackets have had 1st and 3rd place teams from the same district meeting before the State Tournament (my own personal opinion is that the brackets should allow a district to get more than 2 teams in the State Tournament, but then I've been in a district that probably had the 3 best teams in our classification, but only two could make it to the Tournament).

As most posters here know, the UIL seeds its State Tournament with the four Regional winners after the four qualifying teams have been decided. TAPPS, on the other hand, sets the playoff brackets all the way to the State Championship game, with no changes to the bracket at any point.

JWC32 - This year in 6A's bracket, it was possible that 4 teams from the same district could have made it to the state tournament...John Paul, TCA, Ft. Worth Nolan, and Bishop Lynch were all in different parts of the bracket that could have advanced to the state tournament as the "final four".

Thanks for the bracket explanation...makes sense.

Congrat's to Prestonwood on a great run. As for the seniors, you are all great ballplayers. I look forward to keeping up with Hunter, Cam, Chay and John as they continue thier baseball careers.

It seems like yesterday that we all were traveling all over the country with each other & playing on the same teams or meeting in the semi's or finals of most of the tournaments.

Hopefully we can keep our state dreams alive at West. For now we are still kicking!

See y'all this summer.
