At least this SHOULD put an end to the falsehoods that Prior was soft and unwilling to pitch through the usual pitcher's problems. He had, according to what's been released, a major cleanout and work done to the shoulder capsule including tendons, ligaments and all the rest of what's in there. He avoided the more invasive rotator cuff surgery that ends so many pitchers' careers.

That being said, IMO, from all the time that I've spent with my son in Birmingham and seeing first hand what Alabama Sports Medicine's rehab facility is like, Prior should do most, if not all of his rehab right there in Birmingham. Kevin Wilk, Dr. Andrews head of PT, is the individual that personally did the rehab with quarterback Drew Brees. No one in the football hierarcy ever thought that Brees would be back this soon after his shoulder surgery and be throwing with such velocity. Wilk was the man in charge and ran the rehab as Brees spent most of the year in Birmingham. Without a top trainer like Barry Weinberg of the Cardinals or Herm Schneider of the Sox on board, I don't have too much faith in the Cubs staff to understand that they must adhere 100% to Dr. Andrews rehab protocol or the surgery will have been for naught.

I hope Prior makes it back all the way. Whether he ends up with the Cubs or another team, it would be great to see him have the kind of recovery that Brees did, albeit with a baseball and not a football.
